Welp. I guess I’m a liar.
This IS the LAST kidding of the season.

And I’m trying to catch a flight… and Twinkle Toes decided it was a great time to add to the crazy.

Then we are DONE, DONE. Much needed break coming up.

Chicken came in to assist or check out what the commotion was.

Whew! Finally sold the last of the horned wild bunch tonight. They were a pleasure to catch and wrangle!

A bunch of alpine crosses and purebred Nubians. Groups of does and buck /wether kids.

Finally, no more babies in the barn!!!
The wild ones were driving me nuts- always getting in the alfalfa bales, continuously knocking over feed bins, and getting heads trapped field fences (why disbudding is so necessary on large acreage, y’all).
They were so rowdy and disrespectful 😅.

All sales are done for 2026 unless something crazy happens.

Time for a vacation!

Saturday morning breakfast with the grain zombies.

It’s chilly and it rained over 7.5” here yesterday in SETX so they are acting like they haven’t eaten in a week.

We JUST put the windows up last week (got up to feels like 95* with all the humidity) so I was worried someone was going to be under the weather today.

So far everyone feels fine.

For all of those that aren’t aware that you can run several breeds together- here’s your proof that you can.

Size doesn’t make a difference in this crew. It’s the attitude 😎.

Happy Saturday, yall!

Ignore the screaming goat, Dahlia -she’s very angry that I’m skipping a milking on her so that she dries off.

She’s still giving 1 gallon a day at one time a day milking as a second freshener- not bad at all. I just don’t need all the milk!

Just typical evening routine trying to spray all the big stock due to these horn flies. With summer temps, the horn flies go crazy. They still act like they’ve never been sprayed before lol (basically every other day they need reapplication) if they only knew I was doing them a HUGE favor.

Enjoying the last few days with the last babies before they depart to their new home.
Spring is lovely but it’s definitely toasty out in Texas!

The mosquitoes are starting to make an appearance too. Happy Monday all!

The place is a swamp! We got over 3” of rain just yesterday and maybe closer to 10” in the last 2.5 weeks which is not normal for us! We were about to hit severe drought status earlier in the month but I think south east Texas is finally making up for the rain. We should be good for hay season. I know other parts of the state are still in critical condition as far as drought so we’ll be grateful.

The ldgs love the mud though. The hoofed creatures not so much.

LGD training tip: Odin and Freya growing up quickly and in the buck field for unsupervised training. Bucks (and young calves) are the best stock to get little mates trained when no humans are around. The bucks don’t put up with their antics and also are tough enough if the pups get out of line. My does are more fearful of playful pups which that encourages the dogs to play chase. The calf also teaches boundaries as well without being too aggressive unlike mature Jerseys.

Happy Monday all. It’s a bit chilly out for late April!

Looks like we are getting out of drought status in SETX, finally.

Sam is thrilled for another rainy week guarding the goats in the barn. (He actually gets quality down time for a LGD since he is almost 8 years old and tolerates the goats around, but does NOT appreciate being stepped on at all. He did not have good experiences as a puppy.)

They say we are in a Super El Niño now?

Not sure if all the critters (or us) are ecstatic about that… big storms, more tornadoes.

Stay safe and dry all!

Loki with the Jerseys. He is vocal about not getting stepped on and they actually respect him. He took 2 cubes as tax.
