We were on vacation a week in the lovely state of Maine and came back to Texas playing the Sahara.

We had to put out some of our winter round bale stock !

That’s why in early spring it’s best to stock up on that affordable, abundant fresh hay to get you through not only winter but a summer drought too.
Stay cool y’all and happy Sunday!!

Happy Sunday, all.
It’s been non eventful here- but in a good way.
I am working on slowly flushing the girls for the 2028 kidding season. They are staying pretty well conditioned primarily on pasture with some supplementation- which we will gradually bump up over time.

They have t minus 60 days before breeding begins. You cannot flush them too fast otherwise you’ll cause founder and laminitis if not worse.

Hoping we get more triplets and twins instead of singles this season. The goat market has been steady and we are optimistic that it will hold strong in the spring.
We also would like to build onto the herd next year and may add on different, outside genetics. It’s been YEARS since we kept our own or brought in new dairy does.

We would like to begin the kidding season in mid March so if anyone wants to add on some RCR genetics, keep us in mind!

Happy Friday yall!

Remi posing while the duck feeder helps feeding the water fowl. This is our upgraded set up for the water fowl before they get to go to the big pond.

In Waller county Texas, it actually feels nice in the evening- cooler breeze, drier air, no mosquitoes.

Super weird for the summer! Especially for an El Niño happening.
I can get used to it. Stay cool for the weekend you all!

Happy Sunday.

It’s a lovely and calm morning in SETX but the flies are back at it. No screwworm but the usual horse and biting horn flies.

The girls mostly enjoy their fly preventative. They are loving the summer grass and staying thicc with low feed demands.

Here comes big Bertha!!! The tropical depression everyone in the gulf is talking about. So far no crazy winds- just more rain.

We were getting JUST dry enough to start mowing the fields and doing more ditch work… the place is overgrown with nutsedge and small brush trees.

It looks like none of that will be happening this weekend.
You all stay dry and safe and take care of your family and critters!

Happy 5th of July you all. Livestock people celebrate today if all your animals are seemingly content after lasts nights, what sounded like a civil war battle, country style fireworks display.

All goats, cows, horse, poultry, and most importantly dogs are accounted for lol the LGDs HATE the fireworks and are given ample amount of benedryl to calm them down.

Here is the smaller herd exiting the hay barn area still stocked with last year’s hay. Just sharing the peace and serenity on this Sunday.

Happy Independence Day. We couldn’t do all the things we love and enjoy the freedoms we have without all the sacrifices made.

*sound DOWN* unless you like tiny squawks.
We are having these little guinea keets coming out of our ears this year.
We usually let moms raise them out but survival rate of keets is like 20%. So with all the torrential rain and (bad) parenting we are having to collect them to basically save them.
We are not wanting to expand our guinea flock this year so we will be offering small (or large) groups of keets to go. We already have like 70 guinea fowl.

Guinea fowl are very beneficial to your property. They are somewhat noisy but not without reason (most of the time). The guineas get along with our chickens and are not super wild, flighty birds. They have really cut down the presence of snakes and so many bugs here (like ticks, grasshopppers, spiders. They also alert the LGDs when something is amiss like seeing a hawk or predator in the area.

Are yall as happy about it being Friday as these baby ducks are with a fresh pool of water? If not-TGIF!

Take care and stay cool this weekend.

The baby ducks and goslings are getting big and growing some feathers. We are still prepping their next housing stage before they go to the pond as young adults.
