Ever wondered about the origins of Flan?
The ancient Romans copied the Greek formula of mixing eggs with milk and created a recipe called Tyropatinam, which was simmered to curdle the eggs and then served sprinkled with pepper. Tyropatinam is mentioned in the work of the Latin poet Fortunato (530-609 B.C.). In the Middle Ages this recipe became very popular during Lent when it was forbidden to eat meat. Then came the "flado" (cake, flat object, in Latin) that was prepared in salty and sweet versions, with fish, vegetables, fruits, cheese and honey.
Currently, flan is one of the most popular and preferred desserts by all.

National Rice Pudding Day!
You've most likely tried rice pudding at least once in your lifetime. But never thought about its rich history. Today, as we celebrate National Rice Pudding Day, we immerse ourselves in the delicious history of rice pudding. The true root of rice pudding is difficult to discern - the dish can be traced back to multiple cultures over millennia, including ancient China, the Byzantine Empire, and ancient India, where rice was an important food source. A sweetened rice pudding didn't arrive until the 15th century, but by then, rice was already considered the food of the elite. Because rice did not grow well on the European continent, it had to be imported from Asia along the Silk Road or by water. The extensive trade routes made rice an expensive product that only the wealthy could afford. With the passage of time the importation of rice became more affordable and common, and in the 18th century, rice pudding was considered an “everyday” dish.
