bibs are a must in our lives, especially during calving season!

Always happy to help another calf enter the world.

This is a prime example why we stress docility and select so heavily for it. This heifer has not been touched, and has been living on pasture with the herd until this very moment. The fact that we were able to get her in the barn in less than 10 minutes, pull the calf in under 5 minutes, and then continue to give the calf TLC while the momma hovered over her first calf ever, speaks volumes.

🚨 Queen had a calf‼

For those of you who do not know, Queen is a fan favorite here at LF. Queen was a bottle calf during COVID, and understandably so, Kirby and Queen bonded. As a result, we can still go out in the pasture and hand feed and pet Queen.

Queen is apart of our fall calving herd here at LF. We are always excited when she has a healthy calf, but this one is extra special. This is Queen's FIRST black-white-faced HEIFER calf! We have waited 5 YEARS for this moment!

This is a Simmental-Angus cross calf, which is a fan favorite combination here at LF.

It is certainly safe to say, this little lady is staying in the herd as a replacement heifer!

It's that time of year when the momma cows who calved in the spring are due for some rountine health work. We work hard to ensure we are putting out the best quality calves and replacement heifers we possibly can.

Here at LF, there are a few things that are very important to us...
🐃 Routine vaccinations to protect our herd from life threatening diseases.
🐃 Routine pregnancy evaluations, body weights, and body condition scores to ensure all momma cows are doing well.
🐃 Routine parasite surveillance to guide our deworming protocols. Routinely blanket deworming cattle, is a great way to promote drug resistance, and we try very hard to NOT do that here at LF.
🐃 Routine diease testing to ensure herd health.
🐃And finally, we cannot forget about the calves. They too need vaccinations and body weights to help ensure they are set up to grow and thrive.

You cannot manage what you don't measure. Using all of these data points, helps us best help the herd!

We are always grateful and so appreciative of the village that pulls together to help out during the busy times!
