As we get ready to open, we want to hear from YOU! What Alaska-grown foods and Alaska-made products would you like to find on our shelves? 🥕🥔

Maybe it’s a favorite farm’s vegetables, local honey, jams, or something we haven’t discovered yet!

The event featured live music, demonstrations, a farmers market and children’s activities. It’s put on by the Kenai Local Food Connection, which works to increase access to local produce and to promote healthy eating.

We won’t be able to go this year . We will be in Anchorage picking fresh apples and crabapples ! So go have some fun for us .

Using some of our garden vegetables in some clam chowder! Subbing half the potatoes with white beets and turnips . Victoria is one of those odd ones that don’t like potatoes in soup …. So we compromise ! kind of 😁. I just had to post a picture of how gorgeous they all are ! Look at those carrots 😍.

We have pulled the last of our carrots ! Get them while you can. Great for eating fresh, cooked or preserve for winter eating . Rainbow carrots .🥕🥕🥕

Garlic is grown all over Alaska. And researchers from the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE) are working to learn which garlic varieties grow best and how to successfully grow your own.

The Alaska Botanical Garden began multi-year garlic trials in 2013, and the Southeast Alaska Garlic Growers Association conducted trials between 2012 and 2013 in Ketchikan, Juneau, Douglas, Gustavus and Haines. In 2023 and 2024, garlic was evaluated for survival, bulb size and quality at IANRE’s Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station in Fairbanks.
