🌲 A New Name, the Same Heart
We’re changing our name!
Our original name, Ildsjel, meant a great deal to us. In Norwegian, it translates to “fire soul”—a beautiful word that describes someone who inspires and uplifts others. That spirit is still very much a part of who we are and what we’re building. But we’ve come to realize that the name, as meaningful as it was, was hard for most people to say or remember. So, with a little sadness but a lot of hope, we’re making a change.
Our new name, Rogue Spruce Farm, reflects both where we are and who we are becoming. We’ve planted a young Sitka spruce on the farm—our own “rogue” tree—that we’ll nurture into something strong, singular, and rooted, just like this place and this dream. It’s a symbol of our journey: unpredictable, resilient, and full of heart.
This past year has stretched us. We've made our share of mistakes, learned hard lessons, and been humbled by the sheer scale of our own ambitions. But even through the struggle, life has taken hold. The farm is bursting with energy, animals, and purpose—and we are deeply proud of the life growing here.
We remain committed to being an inspiring, community-minded family farm, grounded in integrity, learning, and care. Our dreams for agriculture in Alaska are still big—very big—but we’re learning to take each step with more wisdom and more gratitude.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone who has supported us on this journey. We feel your encouragement, and we carry it with us every day.
Count it all joy.
With love and gratitude,
The Rogue Spruce Farm Family
