Wow did the weather turn quick here in Northeast Ohio and we find ourselves here at Down The Block craving some comfort food. As you should know by now, when we grave something our customers get some over the top specials and of course this time is no different.

Let's start with opening Great Grandma's 100+ year cookbook to see what we want to make...Hmmm what do I see - exactly what I was looking for...Her homemade perfect pierogi recipe. I already knew what I was looking for but a little suspence is a good thing. Potato, multiple cheeses, bacon, lots and lots of Love, wrapped in a beautiful dough, boiled then fried with butter, onions, and cabbage placed along side some perfectly pounded out and lightly fried pork schnitzel and a dollop of sour cream. Now this is special and we truly love sharing with everyone. I truly hope you enjoy as much as we do. $15.00

Chef's felt left out so they put together our famous chicken pot pies. Peas, carrots, celery, green beans, and other veges in a wonderful gravy topped with a light puff pastry brushed with butter and baked to a golden brown crust. $12.00

Now I love brussel sprouts and as far as I am concerned they are no longer a vegetable but a decadent treat for true foodies. I have had sweet, savory, with bacon, over noodles, with cheese, plain, salt and pepper etc etc etc. but this is one always gets Mimi and I. Seasoned brussel sprouts with simply the best blue cheese, bacon, walnuts, and cream, all over fresh gnocchi. Just awesome. $10.00

Let's finish off with Chef Mike's beautiful Mushroom Soup. Creamy, delicious and full of blended and creamed fresh mushrooms - 5 different kinds to be exact. What a great way to warm up on a cool Autumn day.

Of course we have the Best Wedding Soup available until Easter.

I am going to start off with the Pizza Special this week. Why you may ask or the question I want you to ask to fit my narrative...The the reason is the tomatoes in Northeast Ohio our simply out of this world this season and the caprese sandwich was such a hit we wanted to put it all on a pizza. Our homemade red sauce with with fresh mozzarella, burrata, blistered cherry tomatoes, basil, and aged balsamic. This is just absolutely wonderful and what a way to eat. Everything you need right there in front of you.

Now a true Down The Block Favorite...Chicken Cacciatore. Braised chicken thighs, San Marzano Tomatoes, Roasted Peppers, Garlic and served over creamy Pecorino Romano Polenta. This is just reminds me of Grandma's house. Comfort food at its best.

Then we have chicken thighs in the house and what a better way to serve them than in a rich bourbon ginger brown sugar reduction glaze over a perfectly cooked Jasmine rice with ginger and scallions topped with toasted sesame.

Wow how about this finale? Stuffed Jalapeno Peppers Not the premade stuff. Made right here at down the Block. Chorizo and Italian Sausage, bacon, with cheddar and cream cheese, grilled onions, scallions, garlic and the best spices ever. Really this is just fantastic and just wait unit you see how we do it next week.

Starting Wednesday Morning August 26th and ending when we sell out...

Vegetables, especially tomatoes, are in peak season right now and of course we have some treats for you. I am going to digress for a moment and address something before it happens - While tomatoes may considered fruit, before people try to correct me and make me explain myself the facts remain tomatoes may be a botanical fruit but in the culinary world, they are a vegetable and were ruled to be a vegetable by the United States Supreme Court in 1893 so I feel OK saying tomatoes are vegetables. Isn’t the internet great? Now on to the good stuff…

How about a perfectly toasted garlic oil ciabatta bread loaded with burrata, fresh buffalo mozzarella, sliced cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, homemade pesto, basil leaves and drizzle of Balsamic glaze and a pinch of salt and pepper. I am not sure what can be more satisfying with Northeast Ohio tomatoes in August. $12.00

Then we have our fried green tomato and eggplant on the same ciabatta with a lemon garlic aioli and whipped ricotta, served with a side of marinara. You will forget this is a vegetarian sandwich. This sandwich is just layered with love. $12.00

Now this next item is just plain fun and everyone who ate one at the Strawberry Festival – it is back. THE MEATBALL BOMB. Just sounds like something you will want - doesn’t it. One of Down The Block’s homemade meatballs, with fresh mozzarella, wrapped in pizza dough, fried and served with a side of marinara. Basically, fried dough wrapped around a meatball with beautiful fried cheese to be dipped in marinara. Need I say more? $4.50

And since we have burrata cheese and fresh cherry tomatoes in house Chef wants to do a Calabrian Pepper Drunken Shrimp Rigatoni with 5 jumbo shrimp, sweet and spicy Calabrian Peppers in a vodka sauce finished with Pecorino Romano, fresh basil, and burrata cheese. $18.00

As for the Pizza – Crispy Chicken Caesar. Homemade dough topped with our garlic sauce white pizza with provolone covered with crispy chicken, bacon, blistered cherry tomatoes, Romaine lettuce, shaved Asiago, and drizzled with our house blend Caesar dressing.

What a great week at Down the Block, not only did you learn something new you have a chance for some really great food. You are welcome…

08/20/2026

Let's get right into these delicious specials. Chefs are upset with me since I am late getting this out but here we go...

Lobster Ravioli with and 2 large Shrimp in a Sherry Tomato Cream Sauce finished with Fresh Basil and Romano cheese. Decadent and delicious and only $21.00

A customer favorite and a Lisa Ianetta staple...Our fresh light chicken salad on a toasted croissant. Fresh cut chicken, Hellmann's mayo, celery, our Chef's secret seasoning and lots of love. Imagine light and filling and satisfying and there you have this sandwich.

Nothing quite like a beautiful Pastrami Sandwich especially when Down The block decides to do it. Perfectly cooked pastrami, with melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, 1000 Island dressing, whole grain/yellow mustard blend, on 3 pieces of toasted deli style rye served with curly fries. $14.00

Now why stop at the sandwich when we can also put this inside a calzone where we also add caramelized onions, caraway seeds, provolone along with everything else on the sandwich but inside our fresh dough instead of rye bread. This is just cool.

For the pizza fanatics we have a Loaded Baked Potato Pizza with garlic sauce, cripy bacon, seasoned roasted potatoes, melted cheddar and provolone cheeses, finished with scallions and a drizzle of sour cream. Hope you are hungry.
