Aka'ula Farms

Aka'ula Farms We do a little of everything, but our big goal is to help supply the island with good quality sustainably sourced chickens and rabbits.

We also have various lines of produce and the occasional chocolate sourdough loaf to sell.

Marcello knows when it's dinner time, such a good boy!

Although his time at the farm is limited, we make sure he has quality of life.

Has it rained enough yet?

This is our ocean view today. During the past LāLā hurricane, some parts of the Big Island were expecting about 40 inches of rain, we're sure we got way more than that. The super El Niño is been definitely noticed!

On July 25th our heifer Samantha had her first baby, Tabitha. Sam is a Jersey/Dutch Belted cross with A2A2 genetics, Tabitha is 3/4 Jersey and her genetics will be tested soon.
It was a great experience witnessing the birthing process, the miracle of life! Thankfully she didn't need any assistance and it took her about 30 minutes from start to finish... good job Sam!
Sam learnt the milking routine very fast and it's currently giving us 1.75 gallons of precious milk each morning. Along with rotational grazing, we practice "calf sharing" at the farm to ensure our calves get all the nutrients they need until it's time to wean them off.

For her next pregnancy, Samantha will be paired with a handsome Guernsey bull that also carries A2A2 genetics.

Ivy is getting a bit too spoiled lately. She was rather impatient to be milked today.

We are thankful for the dry day after a week of rain, and yesterday's sun was a much-needed respite. Additionally, Radford, a new A2A2 Guernsey bull, has joined our farm to sire calves for next year.
