Ooohhh the goodness of spring is just around the corner. As soon as I see little shoots popping up out of the ground, I’m reminded that it’s all going to come back to this. ⁣

Lush, green, in bloom and just happy. Isn’t it strange how we forget how beautiful this all is in the middle of winter? It only takes a few pops of green to remind me. ⁣
⁣
I think there’s a life lesson or an analogy in there somewhere, but I’m really just talking about the flowers. 🤣

It’s always such a treat to see the farm through another artist’s eyes. This watercolor was painted by Thomas Trausch, who leads our annual plein air painting event on the farm.⁣

The view is from the eastern edge of the property — a spot we don’t visit often, but one that quietly delivers the perfect mix of green, weathered fencing, and that quintessential red barn.⁣
⁣
If you’ve ever been curious about joining one of our plein air days, you should mark July 16 down as the day you finally come and see what it’s all about. Bring your brushes or just stroll around and observe. Either way, it’s a sweet reminder that warm summer days aren’t too far off. ⁣

We’ve had a very successful season of hibernation this winter. That’s looked like - staying home A LOT, watching movies, enjoying Anthony’s home cooking and honing our pottery (Anthony) and upholstery (me) skills. ⁣
⁣
Now it’s time to start getting ready for the season ahead. First up - honeybees! This year instead of getting packages of bees, we have ordered 5-frame nucs. What does that mean? Instead of getting a package of bees and a queen thats new to them, has to be accepted, have a mating flight, jive with her new family, etc. etc., we are getting a queen that already has her crew and is actively laying eggs. It’s a little bit of a head start. ⁣

We have a very short season and thought this might be an experiment worth trying. Maybe we will have hives that look like this 👆 again. ⁣
⁣

Anthony finished his latest creation, inspired by and just in time for this year’s Lake Geneva Winterfest⁣

We make it a point to try and go every year, whether it’s frigid and unbearable - which this year is turning out to be - or if it’s sunny and melting everything in sight. We are so lucky to have something like this just 15 minutes away.⁣

There’s something really unique about watching winter turn into art and I can’t wait to see what this year brings. ⁣
