Hesed Ridge Homestead LLC

Hesed Ridge Homestead LLC We're a faith-centered farm where imagination meets sustainability, inspired by Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and other storytellers. Anyway, back to our story.

We strive to weave beauty, purpose, and creativity into everyday life for your whole family.
~ Fiber Arts ~ Sharpening Services ~ In 2022, we sold our home in Provo, Utah and purchased 35 acres in Missouri! It was undeveloped, with electricity available, but not installed. It didn’t even have an address, which took us almost 3 months to straighten out. Since its comprised pastures and woods, we al

so had to get a gravel road put in, just to be able to drive across it. We purchased a 2000 Jayco Eagle RV camper from a neighbor, and he kindly delivered it to our new gravel pad up on Hesed Ridge (pronounced KCHEH-sed). We decided to call it Hesed Ridge because we know without a doubt that God led us to this beautiful property, and our goal is to use it to help build His Kingdom. Hesed is Hebrew, and doesn’t quite translate to English, but as a whole it represents the unconditional love that God has for us, our need to remember Him in all we do, and His commandment for us to love one another. Once the camper was delivered, Kevin quickly realized that it had black mold in the bedroom, which was unseen before. He hired a professional to clean it out, and the damage was actually less than we had anticipated. God looks out for us! Kevin was able to rebuild the bedroom wall, and though it’s not perfect, it works for us. He and his brother also had to complete some pretty major repairs on the rotted roof so it wouldn’t collapse. We were also able to get electricity, a big Blessing! During the 4 months that he was doing repairs, he lived in a canvas tent here on the property! Nyssa stayed in the tent too for the month of August and part of September before returning to stay at Kevin’s parents house, outside of Fort Worth, Texas. In January 2023, everything was finally done and we moved in to the camper! RV living has been an adventure unto itself! We continue to haul water, and shower at a friend’s home, since the plumbing in the camper needs extensive repairs. Staying cool in the summer is a challenge, and staying warm in the winter can sometimes be tricky too, but God has showed us solutions to every problem, and protected us always. About us: Late in 2010 the Lord brought us together, and in March 2011 we were married. We share a passion for creativity and the outdoors. Kevin is mechanically minded, so construction and cars come easy. Nyssa is very crafty, dabbling in too many crafts to count, but the favorites are fiber arts (knitting and handspinning most of the time), making jewelry, and sewing. We also love our animal-children: Skye, a Shepherd/ Schnauzer mix; Sarge, a rescue that we believe is part Chihuahua, despite his weighing 30 pounds; the ferrets, Spindle, Cast On, and Kashmir. They truly are our kids and bring us joy every day. We hope to add human children to our family when the Lord sees fit. The outdoors inspire us every day, and we continually seek to come closer to God though serving others and working our land. As we live this homestead adventure, we hope to share our joy with you. We've been busy behind the scenes at Hesed Ridge!
This is Ember! She came to us about 2 weeks ago after she was abandoned. She was just over a week old, and in pretty rough shape. We were unsure if she would pull through, but after a couple vet visits and A LOT of constant TLC, she's growing and doing well! She definitely has a strong spirit!
Stay tuned for more updates about this tiny ball of adorable fluff!

Meet Stella!
She is a gorgeous tortie kitten who's 5 months old now, and quite the character! Her favorite place to nap is on our lap, especially while we're trying to work on something. Not even the movement from treadling the spinning wheel seems to bother her!
Ginger and Stella are pretty good friends, so they are always teasing each other and love to play-wrestle. They never fail to entertain us with their antics!

Work in Progress Wednesday!
There was quite a bit of Rowan Big Wool left after finishing the Gnome Hat, so Nyssa decided to make a cute, squishy cowl! She's kinda wingin' it, no pattern! The needles are Knitter's Pride (now KnitPro) interchangeables.
Stay tuned for updates about this project!

Rowan Big Wool and lots of other amazing yarns are available at Jimmy Beans Wool , plus great hooks/needles, and patterns too!

Meet Ginger!
We actually brought Ginger home as a little puppy not too long after Sarge and Skye passed away. The place was way too quiet without them. ❤️‍🩹 Ginger has definitely helped us heal, though she is a handful at times! She's a pitbull/ herding dog cross, so she has all the attitude, and is smart to boot! She loves a good game of tag, and it's even better with a toy in her mouth. She adores the cats, but is actually pretty gentle with them, despite her enthusiasm. She never fails to make us laugh with her goofy and clumsy antics now that she's 6 months old.

Back to School, Yarn Style!
Have you wanted to learn to knit or crochet, but just don't know where to start? Here are a few helpful tips and tools for you!

1. Chunky yarn! Rowan Big Wool is a great choice, but you can also use any yarn that says worsted, aran, or bulky weight. Choose a light or bright color, so the stitches will be easy to see.

2. An easy pattern! Hats, cowls/ scarves, and dishcloths are often a great place to start. Nyssa loves using clear plastic sheet protectors and pocket folders for her patterns in progress.

3. The right hooks and needles! Nyssa prefers circular knitting needles, even for knitting flat pieces, because they sit more comfortably in your lap. 16 inch circulars are especially helpful for knitting your first hat or cowl. Smooth aluminum or wood crochet hooks are a must for your first crochet project.

4. Stitch markers! You'll want to stock up on a lot of these, in a variety of styles, sizes, and colors. Some markers only have a closed ring for knitting, but you can always add a locking pin to use them for crochet too.

5. Project bags and notion cases! Tote bags, old purses or backpacks... If it's big enough to hold your project, it'll work! Pencil cases, eye glass cases, pill bottles, and small tins all work great to carry your needles, hooks, stitch markers, yarn needles, and more!

What are your favorite tools and tips for new yarn lovers?

Lots of amazing yarns are available at Jimmy Beans Wool , plus great hooks/needles, and patterns too!

Kitten Cam, Ep 4: Moved Indoors!
The temperatures have been extremely high this week, and Gypsy's little family was feeling the stress. We moved them into the spare bathroom temporarily, and everyone is much happier!
