“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
The Beatitudes begin with a lesson that can be really difficult to embrace.
Our natural tendency is to rely on ourselves, to believe that if we work hard enough, think clearly enough, or do enough good things, we’ll eventually get where we’re trying to go.
In a world that celebrates independence and self-reliance, Jesus points us toward something much ‘harder’ in a way. Being poor in spirit means recognizing our need for God and understanding that we cannot do this alone.
Jesus reminds us that He’s not expecting us to have it all figured out, but instead open our hands and put our dependence on God. 🤍
