It was a day and wow Fall-Fall is here at last! Also, brrrrrr, the first freeze is imminent! The squash is picked and washed, the patch is mowed, garlic beds are prepped and the hoop house is planted with more lettuces, radishes and mustard greens! Everything in there is growing so fast and I can't wait to offer all that fresh green!

A note on sweet potatoes: it'll be another week at least as they still need time to cure. For market we'll have squash, honey and the last of the eggplant, okra and peppers :( And of course all the soaps, shampoos and conditioners!

Can someone tell the winter squash that their time is up? We're going to try to cover our fig trees this year. Check out how giant they are! They completely die back every year so this is all growth from this year, WOW! Also, I mentioned that I got a mini fig in the spring and it's been so amazing so, if you need a new houseplant, go get a mini fig!

I have to admit that I'm really feeling bummed about the end of summer! Time is just going by way too fast and I want more fresh tomatoes! O'well I guess it's time to move on to the adventures of fall and winter!

Long day, but the sweet potatoes are dug and curing and most of the winter squash is picked. We've already sold quite a bit so if there's anything you have your heart set on this year, don't delay too long :) We probably have 4-5 more large wheel barrow loads to get out of there :)

We're 99% sure that we'll be getting a frost next Thursday the 16th and it's forecast to rain the night before so we've got a long long long list of things to do before then. It's time to bring in house plants, dig sweet potatoes and finish harvesting the winter squash (and everything else for that matter). While folks say that pumpkins and squash can handle a frost, I know for sure that they can't handle one here in this valley, so we gotta pick, wash and get everything covered! Oh my!

Someone ate most of the kale and beets! I knew it was going to happen and that's one reason we always overplant. There are so many great life lessons in gardening and one of the biggest ones is understanding that you have to DO the hard work in order to get the results you desire. There's nothing easy about it. It sucks sometimes and I have 100 mosquito bites right now but like, grasshoppers gonna grasshopper, and we gotta stop them if we want kale salads this winter :)

It took us all day but we got the hoop house planted! And, double bonus, irrigated! We splurged this year on drip irrigation and can't wait to do nothing and watch everything grow! LOL not really, we still have to w**d, but now we aren't watering things that don't need watered! This thing is packed full of goodness!
