So we got lazy about collecting eggs from under one of our broody ducks. We don’t have a drake, but we do have hens and a rooster. Today, we discovered this little nugget peeping away under the duck. So, now we have a chuck! We’ll see if any other eggs hatch in the next couple days 🤷‍♀️

It’s too rainy to get outdoor pics and my indoor pic locations aren’t great, but here’s a peak at the ginger shortbread! It’s sooooo good! Ginger balanced with sugar and butter - yes please!!!!!!

I will be at the Aitkin Farmer’s Market tomorrow Aug 1st with my seasonal wild foraged jellies - including new additions FIREWEED JELLY & MILKWEED JELLY! I will also have pickled purslane and baked goods including the always popular shortbread and Auntie’s Almond cake! See you tomorrow!

What do you do when you like to forage and use wild plants and one of your besties has a high tunnel where things like purslane grow like crazy but are considered w**ds? You forage in the high tunnel! Her high tunnel is so beautiful and she is smart about how she w**ds. She knows purslane is good for the soil, good for food, and doesn’t harm her plants so it grows HUGE! Pickled purslane will be available at my booth the Aitkin Farmers Market on Saturday, August 1! Great on sandwiches and in salads! Come see me :)

The nightly walk from the pasture to the safe, cozy barn. Because the pictured LGD is spoiled and grown accustomed to air conditioning so she can’t keep the coyotes and wolves away at night. I mean she couldn’t by herself anyway, so I guess maybe we need another dog or two? In the meantime, I’ll es**rt the Beasties to their bedroom for the night. Also, the flies SUCK BALLS right now!

I love bears but they really do know how to be a dick.

I don’t have bees this year but my hives were still out waiting to be cleaned up and reset for next year. So, I guess Bjorn decided that day would be today.

I know I should’ve taken care of this all sooner, but Bjorn didn’t have to be such a dick about it.
