She’s fully open! My first rose seedling bloom is here! Do I think she’s gonna win awards? Absolutely not. Do I love her anyway? You betcha. She has a light old rose fragrance, slightly spicy, slightly sweet maybe a hint of citrus only her first bloom and there’s three more coming so we will see. Genetics are so interesting because her mother is Peachy knockout and her father is unknown because I let the bees do the work and I don’t think I have anything this pink color in my garden but I love it

Super exciting day, after years of trying to get rose seeds to germinate, I finally got a handful last year and then the deer and rabbits munched them down to nothing. They all survived winter only to be munch on again, but finally, I have buds!! So thrilled😍 i’ll keep you posted when she finally opens.

I hope you are all enjoying your summer. While I didn’t win the battle against the slugs this year I have been enjoying my time in the gardens working on strengthening the foundations and enjoying new perennials like this beautiful coneflower pictured.

Hello friends!

I’m still here, plugging away quietly. ❤️

Every season brings new challenges, and this year has been no different. Besides a cool spring that stunted my tulips, slugs, snails and rabbits have been my biggest battle.

The good news? I may have finally won the battle against weeds in my production field! A little brown paper and hay have made such a difference. The field is looking beautiful, and any weeds that do pop up take ten minutes or less to pull. That’s a huge win!

Unfortunately, this has attracted lots of slugs and snails. They’ve devoured just about every seedling and many of the plants I’ve tried to grow. I’ve used organic slug bait, hand picked them, and replanted more times than I can count. Eventually, you reach a point where you simply have to say, “I tried my best,” and let the season unfold.

So I’m still not sure what the rest of this season will look like when it comes to markets or opening the farm stand, but I’ll keep you posted.

Even with the challenges, there is still so much beauty here on the farm. I’m especially excited about the progress that’s happening behind the scenes, establishing new roses, improving my growing systems, and building the foundation that will make this farm stronger for years to come.

Thank you for following along on this journey. Your encouragement means more than you know, and I look forward to sharing more of the beauty that this season still has to offer.

Sad news, due to the cooler weather and lack of rain my tulips are delayed or stunted which means no market for me this weekend 😕. The plant swap is still on for Sunday though. Please feel free to stop by the barn between 1-3pm with your extra starts, house plants or perennials to share. No plants to share? No problem please come anyway. We are happy to get you started. It is also the soft opening for my little farm stand on the porch at the barn. My mom will have hand knitted dish cloths, I will have my art, earrings, fresh eggs and more. See you there and bring a friend!!!

Just over a week until the first farmers market May 9th 8-12 at the fairgrounds! We should have plenty of fresh tulip bouquets for mom, cards and more. We hope to see you there and don’t forget to stop by the farm on Sunday for our second annual plant swap exchange. See you there 🥰
