Bath day for the big doodles. Now they smell so good. Next up haircuts and toe trims.

Have a long weekend to do winter prep.

Step 1 done. Barn has been cleaned. Clean animal dishes, clean bathroom areas, new straw bedding, and fresh hay.

Next up is the chicken coop.

Its been a rough few days on the farm. Monday night we unfortunately had to put Chancellor down. He got entangled in a gate. It was a hard decision, but ultimately his quality of life would have suffered. He struggled to walk, couldn't nurse, and could not lift his head to a normal position. It wasn't fair to him. He was 2 months and 16 days. I love these animals like my pets, but there comes a time when we need to remember that they are livestock too. Unfortunately this was one of those times. He will be missed.

It never gets old. I love my birds. They've been cooped inside for a few days because of the rain so they are loving the outdoors today.

102 minutes and the world changed forever.

343 firefighters. 72 law enforcement officers. 2977 victims. May we honor their heroism, courageousness, and their legacy.
But let's not forget the countless others: EMS/nurses/doctors ready to care for the wounded.
Coast guard/tug boats/ferries/private boats who evacuated 500,000 people when bridges, tunnels, and the subway shut down. Pilots/flight attendants/air traffic controllers who were the first and last line of communication piecing together crucial information and worked to safely clear US air space. Forensic scientists who worked to identify the deceased and the construction crews who cleaned up and rebuilt. The thousands of people who provided immense support for their fellow civilians.

Today we honor them.

The first egg laid by our spring 2026 chicks. They're growing up. Plus it's our very first white egg out of our flock. Now just waiting for the rest of the babies to lay their first eggs.

Last week we had an emergency trip to our fantastic vet with Twinkle. Sometime over a 24hr period, she did something to develope a very painful, swollen, red, mucus filled eye. The vet thinks it could be an allergic reaction to getting into some weeds or possibly something got in her eye and irritated it. She was given banamine injections, antibiotic eye drops, and serum drops. It's started to heal overnight thanks to the drops. It's been almost a full week and she is very close to having a normal eye again. There's still a small area that is slightly cloudy, but she is on the mend. She is back to her normal self, trying to sneak grain and munching on hay.

We also brought Electra in for a jaw abcess. She had x-rays done and is awaiting a follow-up. It could be a potential tooth extraction or something else. Time will tell. In the meantime Electra has maintained her weight and enjoys stealing food from others.

One of the baby chicks found her way outside the run for the first time this week. All the babies have been mingling with the big chickens inside the coop and run but are still a little timid when it comes to venturing out into the big world.
