BEFORE IT WAS YARN,
IT HAD A FACE

Before it was yarn, it spent a year growing
beneath our Virginia sky.

It felt the warmth of summer.
It weathered winter.
It watched the pastures turn green, brown, and green again.
It grew alongside the grass, rain, sunshine, and
changing seasons of our farm.

BEFORE IT WAS YARN,
IT HAD A FACE.
and that makes a difference

Someone checked on her.
Someone moved her fence.
Someone filled her water.
Someone carried her hay.
Someone watched for a problem.
Someone knew her.
Someone loves her.

Before it was yarn,
it was grown.

What you hold in your hands is more than fiber.
It is a year of farm work, a year of growth, and a little piece of a sheep’s life.
This is where your fiber begins.

When you purchase from Cedar View Farm,
you’re supporting a small farm choosing to preserve the connection between the animal, the land, the fiber, and the maker.

With the recent addition of new followers I wanted to take the time to reintroduce myself for those who may not know the person behind the posts.

I am Ashley Hoffman of Cedar View Farm. We are located in Central VA where I keep a breeding flock of FBA registered Finnsheep, and a breeding flock of NRCC registered Romeldale/CVM. I manage my flock utilizing a rotational grazing system. Since 2014 I have specialized in offering registered breeding stock, as well as farm grown wool in all stages of processing including raw fleeces, spinning fiber, yarn, and finished products. I am passionate about preserving breed character and the connection between the animal, the land, the fiber, and the maker.

In addition to being a shepherd, I am also a fiber artist. I treasure the process of hand processing raw fleeces to finished items and the connection it builds to the animal who grew it. I am a spinner, knitter, and weaver and love to share my knowledge and passion with others.

Welcome to my page! Enjoy getting to know my farm and my sheep. My hope is to share some knowledge and my passion. If you have a question, speak up and ask!

How big do I make my daily paddocks? How do I determine how large they will be? Are they always the same size?

09/12/2026

Here's how I rotationally graze sheep into daily paddocks without adding gates or cutting fence lines.
