🍉 First watermelon harvest! 🍉

There's something special about cutting into the first watermelon of the season and seeing that bright red center. Months of planting, watering, weeding, and trusting the process all led to this moment. Nothing from the grocery store compares to food grown with your own two hands.

Yesterday's weather reminded us just how quickly things can change on the farm.
We spent today clearing downed trees, cleaning up the mess, and taking stock of the damage. We lost a bunny cage to the storm, and there are plenty of limbs and debris to deal with, but we're thankful to say that every person and every animal is safe.

Storms can tear things apart in a matter of minutes, but that's part of farm life. You clean up, rebuild, and keep moving forward.

Why go to the grocery store when you can step outside and do your shopping in the garden?

Today's harvest brought in cucumbers, tomatoes, banana peppers, jalapeños, and yellow squash fresh, homegrown, and picked just minutes before they hit the table.

There’s something special about growing your own food. The early mornings, the hard work, the dirty hands, and the satisfaction of seeing it all come together. This is the kind of life we love here.

If you're not living this life, you're missing out.

Well, a new chapter of K4 Farm & Ranch is officially beginning... and what better way to start than with a beautiful new bull!

This young guy is the first step in building the cattle herd we've been talking about for a long time. What started as a dream around the kitchen table is slowly becoming reality one fence, one pasture, and one animal at a time.
Dad always loved having livestock around, and while things may look a little different now, we're doing our best to carry that legacy forward and build something the next generation can be proud of.

We've still got a lot to learn and a long road ahead, but every farm starts somewhere. Today, that journey takes another step forward.

The new raised bed garden is officially going in at the farm.
We spent the last few days assembling and placing these beds, and I’ll be honest — these are some of the nicest planters I’ve ever come across. They’re heat-treated, painted steel, built like tanks, and should realistically last longer than I will. They weren’t the cheapest option out there, but sometimes you spend the money once and do it right instead of rebuilding junk every few years.
Now comes the real work: filling them, getting the soil dialed in, and putting them to use.
This is another step toward building the kind of place we’ve always wanted — growing our own food, teaching the next generation where it actually comes from, and turning this property into a real working farm.
Spring planting season can’t get here fast enough. 🌱

Spring work is underway here at K4 Farm & Ranch. Today we burned off the pastures to clear out the old winter growth and make way for fresh grass.

Fire is one of the oldest and best tools a farmer has. It knocks back weeds, returns nutrients to the soil, and helps the new pasture come in stronger for the cattle this season.

There’s something about watching a field burn down to black knowing in a few weeks it’ll be bright green again. Out with the old, making room for what’s next.
Cattle, Chickens & Bees… and a little fire management to keep it all moving forward.

🌱 Food Plot Weekend Incoming 🌱

It’s Friday, which means we’re this close to food plot season officially kicking off. Seed is ready, equipment is ready, and we’re definitely not ready, but we’re doing it anyway.

The seed drill is about to earn its paycheck — straight rows, no wasted seed, and hopefully fewer “oops” moments than last year. If all goes well, the deer will be eating better than we do by Sunday.

Now we just need the weather to cooperate and nobody to break anything before we start.
