Andrés Bedoya’s 100 life-sized flies, made in silver, are now on view at LACMA in the newly reopened David Geffen Galleries.
The material used carries a long history in the Andes, where Andrés is from, connecting Moscas to the history of Potosí silver mining. As the wall text notes:
“Andrés Bedoya’s swarming flies remind us that silver was extracted under dismal conditions to satisfy the world’s insatiable greed for the alluring.”
Moscas was recently acquired by LACMA and is now part of the museum’s permanent collection.
