BREAKING: Melania Trump Becomes Least Popular First Lady in History as She Remains Missing From Public View
Melania Trump has officially become the most unpopular first lady in American history, and it's happening as she stays completely out of sight.
According to CNN/SSRS polling data, Melania's net approval rating sits at negative 12 points, roughly 29 percent favorable against 41 percent unfavorable, the worst rating any first lady has posted at this point in a presidential term. It's a dramatic collapse from the plus 3 rating she held when Trump's second term began in January 2025.
The timing is impossible to ignore. Melania hasn't been seen publicly since the World Cup final on July 19, and has made only 38 public appearances all year. As her visibility has vanished, so has her popularity, and the two trends are landing at the exact same moment.
The comparison to past first ladies makes the numbers even more stark. At this same point in their husbands' second terms, Hillary Clinton stood at plus 25, Michelle Obama at plus 42, and Laura Bush at plus 46. Melania isn't just behind them, she's in territory no modern first lady has ever occupied.
CNN's chief data analyst Harry Enten summed it up bluntly. "Melania Trump is breaking records in the way that you don't want to break records, historically awful," he said, pointing to her controversial 2018 "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" jacket as a lasting turning point.
With her extended absence from public life only fueling more scrutiny and speculation, Melania's disappearing act and her historic unpopularity appear to be two sides of the same story.
