in collaboration with community & farm and as part of our Black archival practice of storytelling, where we honor and bring to life the teachings of Black women and femmes whose wisdom continues to shape our collective paths.

our journey’s open with a by donation silent meditation led by our friend dave ragland from kibilio community & farm as we are then guided by a Black womanist ancestor into a collective sound bath, plant spirit medicine journey, and collective medicine making ritual.

while our open days begin june 7th all of our plant babies are still growing and most likely won’t be ready for harvest until mid june. but you can still come during open days and connect with the land and plant babies before then!

for many of us, our relationship with food as medicine has been disrupted, shaped by systems that separate us from land, our ancestors, and each other.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
at SUSU, we practice food sovereignty. this means creating conditions where Black people, BIPOC, and people of the global majority and our ancestors shape how we relate to land and food. we replace commodification and extraction with direct connection, knowledge, and care.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
in past seasons, food moved from our hands into our local community through our CSA box of resilience. now, we are opening space for you to meet it where it grows. no need to arrive with prior knowledge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
deepen your relationship with what you eat, to learn why certain plants have been used across generations, and to experience how food can support care, healing, and connection in everyday life - while being on the land.

in many school settings, Black history is taught primarily through the lens of enslavement and civil rights era struggle, with limited attention to the vast cultural, intellectual, spiritual, and political contributions of Black folx.

while it is essential to tell the truth about slavery and systemic harm, the absence of culturally affirming context can leave Black students with a distorted reflection of themselves and the people and communities they come from

one that emphasizes trauma without also teaching legacy, brilliance, survival strategies, and thriving.

at SUSU our workshops intentionally center Black women and Black womanist frameworks, bringing forward figures often overlooked in mainstream education, such as Fannie Lou Hamer, June Jordan, Audre Lorde, Bell Hooks, Octavia Butler, and other lineage keepers

our workshops expand how students encounter Black history by centering African American cultural lineage, spiritual traditions, and liberation frameworks that are too often excluded from dominant culture curriculum

we are already imagining and preparing a juneteenth portal
a sacred space where we get to practice
what it means to feel and be free
to rest
to be nourished by the land, to be sung to sleep by bird song
and the gentle flow of the river
what it means to be held by GG T our great grand mother tree
a 300+ year old maple on the land at susu
who is the space holder and elder of the lands here
we have been here tending to baby hibiscus plants and lavender, west african greens and collards
medicinal herbs and edible flowers
so many beautiful beings growing and waiting for your sweet arrival
we will rest, dance, sing, eat, play, be in ritual with the land
and the plant kin who help guide us back home to our bodies
a space where we get to cultivate collective freedom
and actualize our visions and dreams for the future and for the here and now
we are so excited to welcome you to the land and to this sacred space

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
through years of deep work in somatics, liberation, and community healing, we developed the UNBODYING method, a practice that unbinds us from supremacy-based conditioning and reconnects us to our innate wisdom, resilience, and capacity for connection.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
UNBODYING is both disruptive and restorative, a process of unraveling the tensions, protections, and patterns that supremacy culture has forced onto our bodies. it’s about reclaiming presence, connection, and sovereignty so we can face personal and collective struggles with more power, integrity, and resilience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
led by amber arnold, em rose, & lis newell, this transformative journey integrates somatic practices, ritual, and community care to release conditioned patterns of white supremacy, patriarchy, and other systems of oppression.
