Have you ever seen an animal SPLOOT? It's not Hurt, It's Just Cooling Off!!!

Seen a squirrel sprawled flat on its belly, legs splayed out, looking like it just... gave up? 🐿️
Don't panic. It's not sick. It's genius.

IT'S CALLED "SPLOOTING":
Yes, that's the real word.
→ Lying flat with the legs stretched out front and back
→ Belly pressed against a cool surface
→ Totally relaxed, often with a sleepy face
The internet's favorite summer pose.

IT'S HOW THEY BEAT THE HEAT:
Pure survival smarts.
→ Squirrels can't sweat much, so they dump heat through contact
→ They press their belly to cool, shaded ground, pavement, or branches
→ Heat flows from their body into the cooler surface
That "melted" look is the A/C kicking in.

WHY THE BELLY:
There's a reason it's belly-down.
→ They have less fur on their undersides
→ More skin contact = faster cooling
→ Shade + cool surface = instant relief
It's the smartest spot to lose heat.

IT'S NOT A PROBLEM — DON'T "RESCUE":
This is key.
→ A splooting squirrel is fine, just cooling off
→ It's not injured or dying
→ No need to call anyone or intervene
Leave it to chill in peace.

LOTS OF ANIMALS DO IT:
You've probably seen it before.
→ Dogs and cats sploot on cool floors
→ Rabbits, foxes, and others do it too
→ It's a universal 'too hot' move
Nature's group chat all agreed: lie flat.

THE TRUTH:
That "melted" squirrel isn't dying — it's running its belly A/C against the cool ground.
Splooting is just summer's cutest survival trick.
Snap a photo and let it chill.

Have you caught a squirrel (or your dog) splooting? 👇

Our good friends over at Firefly Quail Farm had a major setback to their farm life early Sunday morning. If you are in the Indiantown Area and need fresh eggs, or poultry, please support their farm. They will need help during this time.

I want to thank everyone who has reached out. I truly appreciate it. I may not have gotten back to you -- I'm sorry. This is a lot to navigate.
Yes, Taylor was the driver trauma hawked from the crash on 710 early Sunday morning. I drove to the scene and it was ... horrific.
Taylor is alive - the kids and I are SO grateful. He has a long road to recovery from his traumatic injuries.
Given he was the main Farmer here -- we aren't sure what the future holds for Firefly Farm just yet.
I do know we will have lots of chicken eggs, quail eggs, quail and other quail related products the next few weeks. I will also have some other birds available so that I can downsize portions of the farm to make it more manageable while he recovers.
We won't be at the market for a while. We lost the truck and all our market supplies in the crash. Our farm stand will be open, and I am likely going to have it open 7 days a week while we aren't able to get to the market.
I will post an update for the stand and what will be available in it as soon as I can.
Again-our family appreciates the support. Thank you.

Edit to add : I'm not sure what we need for the farm just yet. I will have a better idea soon.
Most of our eggs sell out at the market on Sunday. Coming to the farm stand and buying our eggs here will be very helpful. I plan to have that stocked up on Thursday. Taylor was actually headed to town to get ice for the market, I am usually in the truck with him. He let me sleep in that day. Another thing I am trying to wrap my head around. I will update here on our page, I just posted this update to help alleviate questions I was already getting. Again, we truly appreciate the support. Thank you.
