MacDonald Farm

MacDonald Farm MacDonald Farm raises animals on pasture and uses no-till techniques to produce fruits and vegetables. We feed our chickens non-GMO grain.

MacDonald Farm is a small family farm committed to producing quality food. We believe the key to human health is healthy soil; our passion is to nurture ecosystems that increase soil biodiversity. We strive to regenerate soil and build habitat for our livestock and also for wildlife. For our produce this means we don’t use chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. We practice no-till techniq

ues that help keep our soil covered which in turn keeps our microbes healthy. We are able to encourage diverse soil microbiology by applying compost and mulches. All of our animals are raised on pasture during the growing season and moved regularly to fresh grass. Currently we have chicken eggs available; $5 a dozen. These are available to pick up on the farm, just send us a message and we’ll gladly help you!

Said goodbye to the old layer flock. These hens have been working hard to bring you the eggs you have come to rely on. We sold them to someone who is going to keep them for laying another year.

Our new flock is laying strong and we have plenty of eggs available, just ring the door bell. We are working on a farm store, but for now you will have to go to the house. Pictures to come.

Wow, the summer is over! We have had an abundant summer to say the least! Started out with a new baby born in June, then we harvested a batch of broiler chickens and then the garden was the best and biggest we have ever grown. Here are some pictures of the highlights

Our latest egg mobile is complete! AKA The Chickshaw. Still working on the automatic door but we are so happy to have the hens back out on the grass; to say they are ecstatic would be an understatement. 😄 We have plenty of high quality eggs available for $5 a dozen.

We have been building and installing bird houses, building a new egg-mobile, planting seeds in the greenhouse, and planting all sorts of fruit trees and berry bushes! Here are some pictures.

We have been looking through last year’s garden pictures. Last season we made progress in our garden. We are growing in a former corn field that was chemically fertilized and sprayed with herbicide each year. Now we are working to rebuild soil by applying organic materials and compost filled with beneficial micro organisms. We can’t wait to see how our soil improves this year! Here are a few pictures from 2020:

It’s a cold day on the farm. We have our seeds ordered and plenty of plans for the spring! We are really looking forward to getting the garden growing again and getting the chickens back out on green pasture. What are you looking forward to most this growing season?

Winter has arrived! We had such amazing weather for November and December as did a lot of the country. The pigs have gone to the butcher shop, the hens are in the hoop house and the sheep are still outside. They are well prepared for winter with their heavy coats. Things are quiet on the farm as the animals settle in for the short, mild (we hope) winter! The freezers are full, message me for a price list if you're interested. We have plenty of pork and a limited amount of grass fed lamb!

This picture was taken a week or two ago, before the snow came.

The sheep have been enjoying an all-they-can-eat salad bar buffet! This time of year the grass growth rate is incredibly high and the goal is to move the animals through all the pasture at a fast rate(moving them two to three times a day) to harvest all that energy in the top part of the grass.

Spring has been very busy on the farm. My family took care of all the animals when I was gone to Missouri for Greg Judy's grazing school. It was an incredible experience! I learned so much in those three days and met so many great people!
