☀️ Summer service, Roots Farm style. 🍅🌱

While summer usually means a break from school, some of our McDonogh School Upper School students spent part of theirs right here at Roots Farm — harvesting, hauling, sorting and helping prepare fresh produce for our local food pantry partners.

It was hot.
The tomato rows were FULL.
And there was plenty of work to do. 😂

But these students showed up, dug in and made a real difference.

Community service at Roots isn’t just about checking a box. It’s about seeing firsthand how a few hours of your time can help put fresh food on someone else’s table. ❤️

We’re grateful for every set of helping hands.

✨ Adding a little sparkle to the farm! ✨

At Roots Farm, we say come as you are… and apparently that includes tiaras, fairy wings, tutus and gardening gloves. 🧚‍♀️👑🍅

These McDonogh families joined us for a morning of harvesting and brought plenty of smiles, helping hands — and just a little extra sparkle — to the tomato fields.

And judging by those overflowing boxes, the tomatoes didn’t seem to mind one bit. ❤️

There are lots of ways to serve your community.

Sometimes you just do it in a tutu. 🤠🌱

Where has Roots Farm been? 🤠🌱

Well… mostly in the dirt.

It may have been a little quiet here on Instagram, but Roots Farm certainly hasn’t been quiet this summer.

Today, McDonogh families and friends rolled up their sleeves, headed into the fields, filled harvest baskets, picked tomatoes and helped us gather fresh produce for our local food pantry partners. 🍅❤️

And thanks to so many helping hands this season, we’ve already sent nearly 3,000 pounds of fresh Roots produce into our community — with plenty more still growing.

This is what Roots is all about:

Growing food.
Bringing people together.
Giving back.
And doing the greatest possible amount of good.

We may have a little catching up to do here on Instagram… but we have LOTS to share. 🌱🤠

🌱✨ A little sneak peek from Roots Farm… today these colorful flags become something even better — rows filled with the amazing plants our Lower School students started from seed and will proudly plant with their own hands.

Basil, peppers, tomatoes, marigolds, and lots of muddy boots, teamwork, and joy ahead. 💚🚜🌱
