Root Down Farm Root Down Farm is a queer-owned farm where we pasture raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, pigs, and 2 kiddos while producing delicious & honest meat.

Our products are available at 2 year round farmers markets, Bay Area retail outlets and restaurants. Located in the beautiful Cloverdale Valley in Pescadero, California, our farm is perfect for growing delicious grass. Here we are dedicated to raise each of the animals in the most humane and ecologically sound way possible, while rotating through the pastures and improving the soils. We believe th

at the best tasting meat comes from happy and healthy animals, and design our management systems around the natural behaviors and needs of the animals themselves.

*The chickens that we are committed to raising for meat are all heritage breeds, which according to the Sustainable Poultry Network are described as; able to naturally reproduce and be genetically maintained, capable of enjoying outdoor pasture and grow at a normal slow growth rate. Slow growth means strong skeletal structure, normal organ development, more muscle and texture to the meat, more nutrient and genetic strength with strong immunities. These are the kinds of birds our grandparents raised for many generations!

Root Down meat shares are now available through Fifth Crow Farm.

A little more local food, all in one place.

If you’re already picking up a Fifth Crow veggie or fruit CSA box, you can now add Root Down pasture-raised meat shares to the rhythm, too.

Whole chickens, mixed meat boxes, and more, raised here on the coast and delivered frozen through select Fifth Crow pickup locations.

Vegetables, fruit, and pasture-raised meat from neighboring farms.

That’s a pretty good box.
