ElMerkury Our goal is to deliver an authentic experience of Central American street food. We take inspiration ElMerk is a dream project walking to reality. XOXO

The concept is Central American Street food and the inspiration behind the menu is the Mayan food staples. In case you skipped that history lesson- Mayans were gatherers first, hunters second, and their diet was based on corn, beans, chillis and chocolate (from this choice of foods you can tell they were obvs smart). These staples are also the basis for our Merk menu. The idea behind this concept

is that we can represent the under-represented countries whose perceptions are sometimes shadowed by news that sell (murder, criminals, drugs) and instead shine a different light by showing the awesomeness that they have. In other words we want to represent Central America through food! Everyone eats so. We believe in the age of ON DEMAND- so even before our brick and mortar is open in the City Of Brotherly Love for the full market experience- we'll be selling part of our menu via Uber Eats & Grubhub. In the meantime- have fun with our Spanglish lessons, food porn, and lousy memes.

Labor Day weekend hours FYI! ⏰

We’re open normal hours at both El Merkury locations this weekend then BOTH locations will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

And while we’re on the topic, here’s a little reminder of our regular hours at both spots:

📍 2104 Chestnut St.
Monday–Saturday: 7am–4pm
Sunday: Closed

📍 Reading Terminal Market
Monday–Friday: 10am–6pm
Saturday + Sunday: 8am–6pm

A blue sugar churro with glitter, sprinkles, and white chocolate

All month long, proceeds for our Churro for Charity are going to Students Run Philly Style, an incredible nonprofit that pairs local students with mentors and empower them through long-distance running.
