Bowers Farm

Two weeks in the brooder to stay warm and get their feathers. Then they’ll move out to the pasture to fresh grass and be moved in shelters daily.

The story of this land began long before it was called Bowers Farm.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the Cherokee and Catawba peoples, whose histories are deeply connected to this region, and recognize their living communities, cultures, and enduring relationships with the land.

We are grateful for the Indigenous knowledge that continues to teach us about growing food, caring for the soil, and tending the world we share.

With National Farmers Day falling on the same day as Indigenous Peoples Day this year, we’re reminded that farming is part of a much longer story of stewardship. We have much to learn, and we hope to carry that gratitude into how we care for this place every day.

A long overdue Awi update!

The short of it is - she’s doing great!

Her surgery was mid May. In June she got loved on by all our farm camp kiddos and staff. And then we started putting her in with the goats at the end of the month.

Our concern has always been that with one missing leg she’d be at a disadvantage in guarding the livestock or that she could get caught in something trying to keep up with her sister. So putting her in with our goat herd (and very close to our flock of sheep) she’d be contained and yet still working.

Her sister, Sasa, still patrols the whole farm but you can most often find her during the day (her time off) laying near the paddock where her sister is 💕

One AMAZING thing we’ve witnessed multiple times is Awi barking in a direction and watching Sasa pick up her head and take off. It’s like even though Awi is contained to some extent, she’s still leading their team and telling Sasa where to go.

All that we went through with Awi back in April and May was so hard at times, but this has seriously been our best case scenario of her getting back to work. Her next test will be how she does when the mommas start kidding (goats having babies).

Whew! In so many ways we were lucky on the farm but gosh, so many we love were in for a long recovery from the destruction! We certainly have not forgotten the fear we felt that day, but it’s the kindness, generosity, and sheer determination of those that really left their mark.

The greatest joy of Bowers Farm Land Improvements is to be able to come in and help make the dreams you have for your land come true.

For this property it was cleaning up old fence lines and replacing the fencing. We were able to come in, mulch the fence lines and put in some beautiful fencing for their horses.

This weekend we’ll be helping clear lanes on some hunting property for one client and grading a driveway for another.

What dreams do you have for your land?
