A little schedule update moving forward: Now that I’m not getting up quite as early on Saturdays for farmers market, the bake stand will be stocked by 10am and open until 7pm on Saturdays & Sundays, unless otherwise noted.

The Sutton & Starter bake stand is stocked and ready for you this morning! I’ve been baking like crazy this week preparing for a two-day event this weekend, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to restock the stand tomorrow.

I’m so excited for Sutton & Starter to be a part of the Hometown T1D Fall Festival this weekend! 🍂🎃

Come see us October 3rd & 4th at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds from 10am–4pm both days and grab some of your favorite fresh-baked sourdough goodies!

There will be lots of other amazing vendors, along with family-friendly activities to help ring in the fall season. Bring the family, kids, and friends, enjoy a fun fall weekend, and come out to support a wonderful organization and cause. 🤎

Market season is coming to an end, and I felt like it was finally time to formally introduce the family behind Sutton & Starter.🥰

My name is Shaylah, and I’m the baker behind every goody you buy. This is my husband, Aaron, the man who packages every goody you buy. And our 14-month-old son, Sutton—the little boy behind the name.

“Sutton & Starter” has always had a two-fold meaning for our little home bakery. “Sutton” for our baby, and “Starter” for both the start of our family and the sourdough starter behind everything we make. Every item we sell starts with sourdough starter.

The dream for this bakery started when I left my 9–5 job earlier this year to prioritize being a wife and mom. I still wanted a way to financially contribute while being home with my family, and Aaron told me, “Do something you love.”

I’ve always loved baking. I grew up in the kitchen, and that love followed me into adulthood. I started by selling sourdough to friends and Aaron’s coworkers, then joined a few small farmers markets—and things just took off. I added more local markets, started taking weekly online orders, and within a couple of months, what started as a little dream had become a full-time job from home.

This summer, Sutton & Starter has truly been a family effort: me baking, Aaron packaging (on top of working a full time job and 12-hour days), and all three of us showing up to markets together.

I don’t know exactly what the future holds for our little home bakery, but we’re excited to keep going with markets, pop-ups, and online orders when we can throughout the winter. We also plan to return to the Lewiston Farmers Market next summer and hopefully a market in Moscow as well.

To every person who has ordered online, stopped by our booth at a market, or simply supported us through social media—thank you. Your support has kept us going, given us so much faith in this little bakery, and brought us so much joy knowing there are people out there who love what we bake.

I am forever grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you🤎
