A closer look at Spice Cabinet Vineyard.

True to its name, this unique 18-acre estate site is the winery’s literal spice cabinet, planted with a wide array of varietals, from Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon to Rhone classics like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.

Perched on the bluffs of the Horse Heaven Hills in the Alderdale Region, its steep southeast aspect and deep, windblown Quincy sandy soils mirror the iconic growing characteristics of the Rhône Valley.

Sitting right adjacent to the Columbia River at an elevation of 450–500 feet, the vines benefit from a constant movement of airflow. This unique micro-climate rewards us with extra frost-free days and immaculate fruit, allowing our winemaking team to craft exceptionally structured wines.

A vineyard defined by honor and legacy.

Cavalie Vineyard takes its name from Captain Alexander Cavalie Mercer, a hero of the Battle of Waterloo. But the dedication to heroism doesn't stop in the history books. This site is also home to Block 93; a special block dedicated to the modern-day heroes of Flight 93 who gave everything on September 11th, 2001.

Situated high above Alderdale Canyon in the Horse Heaven Hills, these 375 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot dig deep into Warden Silt Loam soils, shaped by ancient glacial lakes and wind-blown dust.

It’s a powerful place to grow fruit, and the profound depth of this land shines through in every bottle of our Eagle & Plow and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nature always gets the final word.

It’s easy to get caught up in the accolades, the certifications, and the craft of winemaking but a walk through Spice Cabinet Vineyard brings us right back to earth.

At this unique 18-acre site, our vines push through a fragile layer of windblown Quincy sand, relying on just 6 to 9 inches of annual winter rain and the breeze of the Columbia River to survive. We can do the heavy lifting in the cellar, but the real magic is entirely out of our hands.

The next time you open a bottle of Mercer, here’s to the land that made it possible.

The vineyard gives us the fruit, but the barrel room is where the wine finds its voice. Inside these French and American oak barrels, our vintages sit in quiet reflection, slowly developing the structure, integrated tannins, and complex layers that define the Mercer style.

Our winemaking team monitors each barrel with meticulous care, waiting for the exact moment the wine is ready for your table.
