September 14 Sale Update
Monday gave us a pretty clear picture: if you’ve got hogs, send them. We sold 42 head, had some new buyers in the seats, and they’re looking to buy every week. The buyers are here—let’s give them something to bid on.
The small animals showed up for us again Monday: 54 calves, with a top of $1,350, plus 20 lambs and 25 goats. We also sold 21 feeder cattle, topping at $440.00/cwt.
As for the larger cattle, top colored and crossbred steers gained a few dollars, while top Holstein steers slipped a couple. Cows were down a few dollars overall, though our top cow brought $170.00/cwt.
Don’t forget our Dairy Sale this week. We’ve got strong buyers, but we need more cattle. If you have dairy cattle to sell, now is the time to bring them in.
Next Monday already has some good reasons to show up. We have 50-plus ewes that have been with the rams since August 5, three rams, and those eight purebred Gelbvieh steer calves coming through the ring.
And after Monday, it’s time for one of our favorite sales of the year—the Clay Ranch Select Sale. We get to sell an outstanding group of Quarter Horse weanlings and catch up with the Mullin family, our favorite Canadians. Come to the preview Friday, September 25, from 4–7 PM. There’ll be a food truck on site, and you can pick out your favorites before the sale Saturday at noon Eastern.
