Thank you Sun Prairie for showing up today and shopping the Sun Prairie Farmers Market. You sold us out of so many cuts today.

We were a little light on some beef cuts, but your willingness to try new cuts or to pivoting your meal plans is greatly appreciated.

That’s the difference from shopping with a farmer selling cuts vs the store. We don’t just get in certain cuts in bulk and we can’t just get more steaks in. We have the challenge of merchandising the entire animal - from the prime cuts to the less desirable or lesser known cuts. The best way to help your farmer become successful and sustainable is a willingness to try those cuts because they need to sell the entire carcass to remain profitable and stay in business and/or grow. And you just might find something else you enjoy at the same time!

If you need recommendations on how to prepare a certain cut, just ask your farmer. They are your best and easiest source to ask.

With two athletes, playing two different sports this fall, we have hit the peak “Dinners on the Go” phase of life.

This spring I saw some different videos online about the Presto Nomad slow cooker and was intrigued. Then at a track meet I saw a mom from another school dishing up her family food from one and I had to stop and ask her about it. She said it was a game changer. So naturally, I decided I need one too.

A few weeks ago Kenny and the girls headed to Fleet Farm to pick one up to gift to me for my birthday and now we are ready to go for fall sports!

With games and meets multiple times a week, it can be very tempting to just swing through somewhere to grab something to eat. It’s fun once in a while but it can get to be pretty pricey and not always the healthiest.

For the past few seasons, I have tried to pack some meals for us now and then. We have done a lot of wraps and sandwiches on the go but I was wanting to not only challenge myself to make more meals for on the go but also change it up a little more than just sandwiches.

I know many of you find yourself looking for meals on the go as well, so follow along as we cook our way through this sports season and test out our Presto Nomad!

Thanks to everyone who was so understanding of us missing the Sun Prairie Farmers Market and Monroe Street Farmers Market last weekend. We spent some long days at the Wisconsin State Fair as a family supporting Maycee in and out of the show ring.

We will be back at both markets this weekend and hope to see you there!

My hometown independent fair kicked off today! Tomorrow is the day for the annual junior cattle show, so I thought I would share a bit of a “throwback” of my fair days. This was my steer, Dakota.

So many lessons were learned in this show ring and those barns of our small little independent Attica Fair over the years. Those years in 4-H were instrumental in developing my confidence, compassion, independence, the value of hard work, resilience, and so much more.

My niece took home Reserve Champion Meat Pen Chickens and my nephews will be in the show ring tomorrow with their beef feeders. Wishing them (along with my other nieces and nephew who will be giving the pedal pull and other fair activities a go) good luck! We hope to be there in person to cheer you on next year.
