Get your Seniors Vouchers (cards) at the Russell County Extension office Friday, May 29th at 8:00 am. Fifty dollars worth of free produce for people 62 years old and over. This is the only distribution day this year.

Thanks to irrigation and favor, our garden is shaping up. We planted extra Indiana Red tomatoes, for the County Farmers' market. Cucumbers and bell peppers are getting ready to hit the dirt too.

The opening day of the Russell County Farmers' market is June 5th at 7:30 am. We will be opening on Saturday June 6th at 9:00 am. The Tuesday market will not start until late in June or early July.
Most of the time, we will be set up at Russell County Extension Office parking lot in Russell Springs. However, we are partnering with the Russell County Hospital and the Russell County Health Department for some alternate market days.

At Hi-land we soil test every year and apply only enough fertilizer to support the growing crop. It’s good for the environment and the bottom line and crop yields.

The first step in reusing plastic mulch is sweeping off w**d residues. This raised bed will soon be growing 3,000 sweet onions.

This picture is from 2025 and it was a reclamation project on two barn sites and three barn lots. It took two plowings with a turning plow to remove foundation rocks and many roots. Soil fertility varied greatly from area to the next. We regularly avoid tillage to preserve soil structure. We are expecting good results in 2026.

The annual “Brown Out” is here just in time for Thanksgiving baking. You can get four dozen clean, brown eggs for $10. Pickup is on Fridays from 10:00 to 11:00 am. at Russell County Extension Office - ANR. Parking lot. Place orders on Thursdays.
