ChefShop http://chefshop.com/Newsletter.html ** If we learned anything in our high school economics class, it’s that it takes all three for a market to exist and thrive.

Working with family-owned artisan producers of hard-to-find ingredients since 1997.
** Subscribe to our newsletter and get 8% off your first order and be entered to win the current give-away. As Peter Kaminsky, Food Editor of The Wall Street Journal, writes in his book, Culinary Intelligence (Knopf, 2012), “Think before you eat, choose good ingredients, understand how flavor works, and make an ef

fort to cook.” If you follow Peter’s philosophy for maximizing flavor per calorie and eating only delicious, flavorful foods, in the end you will be more satisfied with smaller portions while enjoying more one of life’s greatest pleasures – food. You can’t talk about exceptional food without talking about people; the people who grow or make amazing food products, the people and companies (like ChefShop.com) who seek out those products and work to bring them to “the masses”, and the many people who buy, cook and eat those products in their restaurants and homes. ChefShop.com has been supporting family owned artisan food producers and growers who both preserve old and create new food traditions, and create and preserve flavorful foods, since 1997. It’s small food producers who keep us close to the ground and the roots of where real and flavorful food comes from. And it’s the promotion and distribution of these original and heirloom foods that help these important foods and food traditions survive and thrive, and help stave off the continued commercialization and mechanization of large-scale food production and distribution in the US, and thus the inevitable loss of the most precious part of our food - its flavor. At ChefShop.com, we live by the quality, purity and provenance of our products; we scour the world to discover producers and growers who make exceptional food their life’s mission, because we feel that delicious, quality foods nourish our bodies, our minds, and the earth in equal measure. Because quality, flavor and healthiness go hand-in-hand-in-hand - every time! That’s why we work with farmers like Kevin Stennes from Stennes’ Family Farms who provides us with the perfect Rainier cherry harvested at its peak of sweet, juicy lusciousness, or Mark and Maria Whitehead of Hawkshead Relish Company in the Lake District in the UK who reach for the perfect chutney - a delectable balance of exotic spices with tart, pungent, and fruity flavors made from locally grown fruit. But, the quality of our products doesn’t tell the whole story. We also work closely with family farms and producers who study and integrate traditional food techniques into their products – from locally grown heirloom emmer and spelt, to hand-dipped couverture chocolates made the old-fashioned way, from naturally and traditionally fermented Japanese Shoyu, to cold-harvested raw nomatic honeys; we seek those that work hand-in-hand with history and tradition, not against it, and who understand that it’s nature that ultimately drives not just a sustainable food system over all, but exceptional flavor in our refrigerators, in our pantries, and ultimately on our tables. When you buy from ChefShop.com, you are seeking the purest foods made by family producers whom we’ve individually selected for the quality of their ingredients and their adherence to tradition and purity and flavor. It’s mouth-watering food born from passion and commitment to tradition, the power of the natural world, and nature's most under-valued resource - time! ChefShop.com(R) - eat simply! live well!(TM)

Your cookout condiments can do better.

Two jars we’re reaching for right now:

🌭 Hawkshead Bloody Mary Ketchup: Ketchup with a little drama. Tomato-rich, sweet, spicy, and tingly in the way a good Bloody Mary should be. Try it with hot dogs, burgers, fries, eggs, roasted potatoes, or anything that wants ketchup but could use more personality.
https://chefshop.com/products/hawkshead-bloody-mary-ketchup

🍔 Fallot Dijon Mustard: Classic French mustard with real Dijon bite. Sharp, savory, and useful far beyond a sandwich. Stir it into vinaigrette, whisk it into marinades, spread it on grilled cheese, or serve it with sausages and roast chicken.

This is the kind of pantry upgrade that makes a very normal meal feel much less normal.

Sherry vinegar is one of the fastest ways to make summer food taste more vibrant and complete.

Sanchez Romate Reserva Sherry Vinegar is made in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, from sherry wine made with Palomino grapes. It is aged in oak for at least three years, giving it more depth than a simple sharp vinegar.

The flavor lands in that beautiful space between acid and sweetness, with almond notes and a layered, almost savory character.

Where we love it:

✨️ Tomato salad
✨️ Gazpacho
✨️ Roasted peppers
✨️ Braised chicken
✨️ Lentils and beans
✨️ Marinades
✨️ Soups and stews
✨️ Simple vinaigrettes
✨️ Farro salad with great olive oil (p.s. we know where to get some)

A little sherry vinegar can make a dish taste like someone thought about it longer than they did.

The “dirty” in a dirty martini is all about the brine. 🍸️🍸️

A classic martini is clear and elegant. Add olive brine, and suddenly it becomes cloudy, salty, savory, and so much more. Add more brine and it gets “extra dirty.” Push it further and some people call it “filthy.”

🫒 The olive matters, too.

Anchovy-stuffed Manzanilla olives bring serious umami depth and are our top pick for a dirty martini with backbone.

Blue cheese-stuffed olives lean steakhouse: rich, salty, bold, and absolutely not shy.

Lemon-stuffed olives are bright and polished, especially good with gin or anywhere you might normally want a lemon twist.

Habanero-stuffed olives are for the adventurous. We’d put them in a spicy Bloody Mary before anything else, but we respect the person who brings them to martini hour.

🛟 Save this for your next cocktail night.

Not just martini olives.

A good stuffed olive is one of those tiny pantry luxuries that does more than you expect. Yes, it belongs in a dirty martini. But it also belongs next to cheese, folded into eggs, tossed with roasted potatoes, chopped into vinaigrette, scattered over pizza, or eaten standing at the counter while deciding what dinner is going to be.

This week we’re deep into Spanish Manzanilla stuffed olives: anchovy, lemon, blue cheese, piquillo pepper, and habanero.

A few ways to think about them:

🐟️ Anchovy-stuffed: savory, briny, and made for dirty martinis, puttanesca, Caesar-ish dressings, tapenade, and pizza.

🍋 Lemon-stuffed: bright and clean with gin, grilled fish, roasted chicken, grain salads, and salsa verde.

🧀 Blue cheese-stuffed: steakhouse energy. Try with wedge salad, crostini, walnuts, pears, or a very serious martini.

🌶️ Piquillo pepper-stuffed: Spanish bar snack material. Add anchovy and guindilla pepper and you are basically in Gilda territory.

🔥 Habanero-stuffed: for Bloody Marys, tacos, nachos, spicy relish, and people who think olives should flirt with danger.

Follow us for more tiny pantry upgrades that make meals more interesting! ✨️

New at ChefShop! The weeknight dinner solution with serious umami goodness.

And it takes almost no work on your part to get rich, saucy, flavorful, tender chicken.

Pop the chicken marinade in the fridge before work, or even the night before, and let it do the heavy lifting for you.

We love to pair the Shio Koji Sauce from Umami Insider with mayo, something we learned from , and get an incredible pan sauce out of the marinade. Double the fun, no trouble!

Next time we're considering adding peanut butter too...what do you think? Let us know in the comments! 🤔

A stop at the Harbor House Inn while on the coast is such a treasure! We planned well ahead to get our reservation in the books and had an incredible meal full of so much flavor!

The setting, with the restaurant's huge windows looking onto the Pacific coast, feels like perfection. And then, the food comes, with each dish so composed, fresh, and inviting. It's hard to pick a favorite...luckily, we don't have to!

From the freshest fish, to smoked lamb, to a gorgeous salad with yuzu (!) sesame (!) dressing, all rounded out with a creamy-tart dessert and a cup of herbal (truly!) tea, this is a meal we won't soon forget.

Thank you, Harbor House and Chef Matthew Kammerer for a night to remember!
