One seasonal rhythm we have come to anticipate each year is the time we set aside to prepare and make Zรฒngzi (็ฒฝๅญ). Donโt be deceived by its appearance - Zรฒngzi (็ฒฝๅญ) are actually a type of dumpling! These dumplings are made with sticky rice and assorted fillings all tightly wrapped within bamboo leaves.
Every spring since we started Two Little Dumplings, we mark the date of the Dragon Boat Festival (this year, it falls on June 19th). Then, with a mixture of great anticipation and misgivings, we embark on the all consuming task of creating this traditional food across several days. Over the years, we have made different versions of Zรฒngzi, but we have settled on creating them in the stronger flavored Northern Taiwanese style in which the sweet rice is stir-fried with soy sauce/tamari, spices, and fillings until partially cooked before being packed and boiled. Keeping the Zรฒngzi-making tradition alive, as demonstrated by our grandparents, carries much significance for us. By repeating the same rituals and movements of this handmade food, it is as though their memories continue through us and are imparted into the future. The bamboo wrapped bundles of all-in-one delicious meals are such satisfying rewards for all the work and heart that goes into them.
This year, we are offering our community the ability to preorder frozen Zรฒngzi that you can easily reheat at home by boiling in a pot of water for 20 minutes. We have two versions of this delicious dish - Pork Zรฒngzi and Vegan Zรฒngzi (GF).
Reserve yours via the main page of our website, link in bio, or at https://forms.gle/Rx1tJ5BSgrN4w2GK7 for pick-ups available this week and next at our storefront. We will also be serving these Zรฒngzi hot at our farmers market stand in the coming weeks.
