Breeding season is officially wrapped up and the bulls are turned out doing what bulls are supposed to do. Now it's time for the humans to switch gears...

🌾 Hay is down.
🌾 Straw season is underway.
🚜 Long days in the tractor seat have officially begun.

While we're busy chasing weather forecasts, making hay, and trying to beat the next rain cloud, Simon and Wilson seem to have the whole summer thing figured out. Apparently the preferred method of staying cool at Pleasant View Farms is a garden hose and absolutely no concern about getting muddy. 😂

The cows are happy, the grass is growing, and we're looking forward to seeing what next year's calf crop has in store.

Most cattle producers were bracing for a sharp decline in cattle futures Thursday following Wednesday's confirmation of a New World screwworm case in Texas. Anxiety was heightened by the expanded daily trading limits that went into effect June 1, giving the market room for much larger moves in either direction. Instead, futures delivered a welcome surprise, rallying limit up and providing a boost to cash market sentiment.

If the move holds, it may go down as "The Screwworm Bounce of 2026"—a day when traders expected panic selling but were met with one of the strongest rallies of the year.

The strong tone was reflected in feeder cattle sales across the country. Ogallala Livestock Auction dominated the 7-weight division, posting the top five prices of the day, led by 83 head weighing 712 lbs at $440.00/cwt. Ogallala also claimed the top three 8-weight sales, topped by 84 head weighing 805 lbs at $386.00/cwt. In the 9-weight division, Pratt Livestock led the way with 55 head weighing 909 lbs bringing $360.00/cwt, followed closely by several other sales above $355.00/cwt. The combination of limit-up futures and strong auction results highlights the continued strength in the feeder cattle market.
