Bucket season is here! 🍁 💧

It starts by drilling a small, shallow hole into the xylem (aka sapwood) layer of the tree and setting a tap. Next, we hang our buckets and listen to that sweet, sweet sound of sap dripping. It never gets old!

Then, we wait…..

🥞It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one single gallon of finished maple syrup-
But it’s worth it for so many reasons.

We hope to be busy in the woods for the next month if the weather cooperates!

Our beef is leaving New England for the first time today! 🗺️ 🚛 😱
We carefully packed 95 lbs of ground, steaks, and roasts, added dry ice, met the driver bright and early, and sent it off 🫡.
While keeping our beef super local is the truly the best, it is pretty exciting to meet customers in other parts of the map! Plus, playing with dry ice is kind of fun 🧊 🤓.

Thanks to Arctic Dry Ice and Vital Delivery Solutions for helping this first timer !

Here we go!!

Ever seen cows or horses with snow on their backs?

That’s actually a very good sign.

When snow sits on an animal’s back instead of melting, it means their winter coat is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do! A healthy, well-fed animal grows a thick hair coat that traps warm air close to the body. That natural insulation keeps their body heat in — so well that it doesn’t melt the snow on top.

It tells you a few important things:

✔️ They’re healthy and in good body condition
✔️ They’ve developed a proper winter coat
✔️ They’re adapted to the climate
✔️ They’re comfortable outdoors

Healthy animals handle winter the way nature designed them to. Snow on their backs isn’t a problem — it’s proof they’re thriving- and this is something that makes us unbelievably happy 😃

The boys at their chores this brisk, 5 degree morning. While Ben grew beard-cicles, Jake went about feeding in his underwear - “it’s not that cold out, mom!” I beg to differ 🥶!
