It begins! This year it will be a divided breeding season with Patchwork Keagan starting with his flock this week and the new guy Red Tag Neptune coming the end of October.
I was going to wait a few more days, but three of Keagan's selected girls, Bijou, Poppy, and Greer, happened to be standing next to the gate. Open gate, close gate - no dragging involved! Krista was introduced later and I was reminded why I try to avoid dragging!
I have no idea how Keagan got that wool ring around his horn.

ON HOLD
Patchwork Keagan (lilac) will serve as one of our two flock sires for 2026. I continue to cut back the breeding flock but there will still be lambs in 2027.
Keagan gets points for being a gentleman while getting his fleece sample.

Destiny is the daughter and great grandaughter of Patchwork Future and both were aptly named.
Destiny is not quite four months old. I love that she has equal laterals and tops as is a trait of her line. Her interesting facial markings are fun.
I also love that she likes me :) The line is a line of friendly ewes.
And her lovely fleece is a bonus.

Patchwork Poppy in the sun h**p. It usually grows really well, but there wasn't enough rain this year. There is still enough that the sheep are enjoying it.
Poppy took a break from lambing this year as she is the dam of both of last year's sires. She enjoyed being a pet sheep for the year - she loves cuddles :)

Destiny is so lovely she could win multiple 2026 awards. But it's one award per lamb - sorry, Destiny.
Destiny wins the award for the highest COI (coefficient of inbreeding) at 12.8%. JSC recommended 5% and TLC recommends 10%. Most of my flock is under 5%. But COI is just a number and there is more to consider. The more important number (in my opinion) is the percent of blood. Destiny includes 62.5% from her dam/great grand dam Future, which is 12.5% more than if Future only showed up once in the pedigree as her dam. Future is a top notch ewe and I'm happy to be concentrating her genetics, her deer like style, her strong and balanced horns, and her gorgeous fleece.
