Interesting… Color doesn’t matter much but I like to prove myself right and I’d like her papers to be as accurate as possible if I’m on the fence.

When Steel Magnolia was born, Shane voted white. I voted yellow. She was very creamy! I knew as she grew, it would be more obvious which color she was. Her white nose ring had me puzzled, so I tested her.

To my surprise and Shane’s “I told you so”, she tested white with wild type. I believe her hair will become more white once her cream calf coat sheds but I do think she’s going to be an interesting and fun one to watch.

Getting back into the swing of things as summer “break” comes to a close… not much of a break as I felt we were insanely busy but I’m ready to settle in, watch fall and cooler weather sweep in, and enjoy my cows a little more. Only four weeks until fall calving! 🍂

What a sight to see! This is the first time this little creek has been actively flowing in months. They’ve called for rain several times and we watch the clouds pass right by us. Last night the hammer came down, we lost power for a couple hours but I’ll take that any day with the kind of rain we received. Thank you, Lord!

This is a favorite moment of mine- watching calves become apart of the fold. They come out from under their dam and suddenly act like professional cows. This is one of the main reasons we leave calves on their dam for at least 6 months- the dams teach the calves how to cow, something we could never do. It makes you extra thankful for those good first-time Mamas.

Ah, life and farm update. I’ve struggled with posting and responding here lately, especially after losing Tulsa. Although, it felt nice to back away, put the phone down, and dive into other areas of life that needed my attention. Life has been busy, God has answered a lot of our prayers that has kept us busy and for that, we’re thankful.

If you’ve messaged our farm page, we will get back to you by this week. Apologies for the slack!

The cows are happy (even with all of the weeds) and thriving. We have 6 weeks until our fall calving season begins with our first season of Snowland Olaf calves and man, we are looking FORWARD to those babies!

We have a couple heifer calves that will be available at weaning, and we have an exposed cow/calf pair available, along with two heifers. All are AHCA registered. We’re slimming down some due to the lack of rain and pasture needs. If you’re in the market, PM me and I’ll send info. We will be posting them in a couple of weeks.
