We bought one of these at the McKinney Farmers Market last Saturday. The farmer said it grows well here in the heat of summer and tastes like cucumber. She was right!

The garden is a struggle this time of year!

But several varieties of winter squash are coming along. Some are beginning to put out vines and have tight buds.

Some varieties seem to be very attractive to field rats that don’t have much else to forage right now. So I’ve lost all of some varieties while others are thriving.
