A beginner friendly yoga class
We hope this email finds you summertime flexible. Summertime flexible you ask? It's the time when many winter hibernators hear the call of the outdoors. Trail hiking, kayaking, par course doing, tennis racket swinging. Even a simple walk outdoors is so different from the treadmill. Hills, uneven surfaces, sidewalk curves giving us a (sometimes) welcome change of pace and challenge. *** Is flexibility an integral part of your fitness journey? I am gardening a LOT right now, with a five-year plan to create a native plants, pollinator friendly food forest in our yard. Shoveling from mountains of topsoil, compost and mulch. Shout out to Grow Pittsburgh (https://www.growpittsburgh.org/ ). On my knees, digging holes, pulling weeds, & praying I get the tomatoes before the groundhogs do. Depending on your activity, all the joints and muscle groups can take a beating! Harvard Health explains why stretching is important: "Stretching keeps the muscles flexible and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage." https://www.health.harvard.edu/healthy-aging-and-longevity/the-importance-of-stretching
