Just a peek in High tunnel #2 this Friday 5/8/26. Puerto Rican peppers are still going strong and over our heads. Latest plantings of cherry tomato and slicing tomato on either side with some 'margarita' cucumbers recently planted in front. Cherry tomatoes are just starting to have a few ripen. Slicers will be another month or two.

The Kalo loved all that rain - cucumbers & tomatoes not so much. Too much water = wet feet and disease running rampant on the leaves = loss of production. So thats why not many cucumbers or tomatoes at the market. We have a couple new plantings that we hope will start filling in but will be a few weeks. Fingers crossed the ag irrigation system will be fixed soon so we can start planting again.

Pumpkin helping with harvest? Surprised to find Pumpkin kitty up in the cart during our first harvest of 2026. Didn't even know the old fellow was spry enough to get up there. Kind of a naughty on his part - he sat a bit then got out on his own. Never seen him hang around the cart before much less get in.

Latest planting of cherry tomatoes with living mulch. Transplanted on December 11th. We are short on mulch so I put down Teff seeds and watered them in. Covered the walkway with insect netting to keep out birds but the uncovered areas came up ok too. Second photo is 4 days later and the teff is coming up. Last photo with 'Opua kitty was December 27 and Teff is nice and healty and tomatoes have grown. Older cover crop adjacent to the tomatoes has been mowed down. Last patch of cover crop will be mowed in a couple weeks. All of the fields got cover cropped this year except one small one that had the calabaza squash and sweet corn. So pretty happy about that.
