🌴🌺 Farmers across Hawaii are raising concerns as rising land prices, expanding development, and increasing pressure on limited island land continue threatening some of Hawaii’s most valuable agricultural areas. 🌱🚜
From the fertile fields of Central Oʻahu and the ranchlands of Hawaiʻi Island to the farms of Maui, Kauaʻi, and rural communities across the islands, many local farmers say productive agricultural land is increasingly being lost to housing projects, commercial development, resorts, industrial facilities, and expanding infrastructure.
Many farming families worry that once farmland is paved over or permanently developed, it may never return to food production.
One Hawaii farmer stated:
"Hawaii has limited land and limited resources. Once farmland disappears, we lose more than crops. We lose food security, local jobs, and a connection to the land that has sustained island communities for generations."
Hawaii's farmers help produce fresh fruits, vegetables, coffee, macadamia nuts, tropical flowers, cacao, taro, livestock, and countless other agricultural products that support local communities and reduce dependence on imported food.
Across Honolulu, Hilo, Kailua-Kona, Kahului, Līhuʻe, Waimea, Upcountry Maui, the North Shore, and rural communities throughout the islands, many residents say protecting farmland is about more than agriculture.
It is about preserving:
🌱 local food production
🏡 family farms
💧 water resources
🦜 native wildlife habitat
🌴 open space and rural landscapes
🤙 local jobs and communities
🌺 Hawaii's agricultural heritage
Many residents believe Hawaii's future depends on maintaining a balance between growth and preserving the land that feeds the islands.
Because once productive farmland is replaced by endless development, resorts, industrial projects, warehouses, and expanding urban areas...
it may never come back.
Supporting Hawaii farmers means supporting local food, stronger communities, greater food security, and the long-term sustainability of the islands.
🌴 Support Hawaii Farmers. Protect Hawaii Farmland. Preserve Hawaii's Agricultural Heritage. 🌺🌱🤙
