We brought home the latest pork harvest and these bone-in pork chops and ham steaks are absolutely divine. We are big fans of slow food around here…meaning the slower they grow the more flavorful they become.

So we tried an experiment with one of our pasture-born gilts and fed her to 18 months versus our standard feeder pigs of 9-10 months (which is already 3-4 months longer than traditionally raised hogs. She was intended to be part of our breeding stock (but it didn’t work out) and because of that she had been limit fed since she was about 9 months old. Which means she received a certain amount of feed per day versus full feed like our feeder pigs.

This experiment did not disappoint! These chops and ham steaks were delicious and larger than our usual cuts. And you can find them at The Farm Store starting tomorrow.

We will also have lettuce, green onions, and our usual grass fed and finished beef, pasture raised pork, Gran’s jams and pie fillings, tallow and lard skincare, maple syrup, and so many handcrafted items from our local vendors.

Radish season is here…we’ll have radishes available starting today at The Farm Store! These delightful roots make a lovely addition to salads 🥗

We also have our freezer full of grass fed and finished beef, pasture raised pork stocked for the week. Pasture raised eggs from our free ranging hens will be available this week.

Along with the all of our usual pantry staples…sourdough bread, homemade pasta, Gran’s jams and pie fillings, maple syrup, tallow and lard skin care products, and shelves filled with handcrafted items from our amazing local vendors.

Stop by during store hours to shop for locally grown food and support a variety of local small businesses.

Not all weeks go according to plan…this week started on Sunday with sorting and loading cattle as a family. And this poly wire reel is a great example of how that went 😒…the only silver lining is that this happened at the end of working cattle. Thankfully Tim is a professional reel unraveler (thanks in part to my less than stellar fence reeling help). A few other hiccups yesterday, but all seems calm again around the farm (at least for now ☺️🫣)

P.S. inventing a way to prevent these reel mishaps would be worth every penny

Guess what!?!…we have rhubarb and asparagus at The Farm Store today (until it’s gone) 🥳.

If you are an asparagus lover or rhubarb eating enthusiast then this current season is your time to shine! Their season may be short, but nothing beats fresh asparagus and/or a strawberry rhubarb pie 🤤
