The Farm is now hiring for an Educational Outreach Coordinator to expand and enrich the opportunities for educational programming and community outreach. Compensation would be $25 per hour for maximum of 20 hours per week, i.e., $2,000 per month, or a total of $12,000, for a 6-month appointment as an Independent Contractor. The Summerlee Foundation awarded a generous $12,000 grant to the Ellis County Rural Heritage Farm to hire an Educational Outreach Coordinator. The Coordinator will collect information and create an inventory of educational institutions, civic organizations, businesses, and governmental entities that are interested in being a part of a Farm Partner Network to support the educational mission of the Farm “to tell the story of small family farms in the Texas Blackland Prairie that provided the economic foundation for the ascendance of the cotton industry and ultimately the rapid growth of the Central-North Central Texas economy and communities”.

The Prairie Wildlife & Wildflower Adventure on Sunday, April 26th, was a lot of fun! Visitors enjoyed going on wildflower walks led by knowledgeable guides with a passion for native flora, watching the awesome beauty of bees and butterflies alighting on the wildflowers, enjoying fun interactive demonstrations and crafts that featured learning about the floral treasures and wildlife of the Texas Blackland Prairie, and visiting the chickens, goats, cows, and horses in residence at the Farm. A special thanks goes to the Indian Trail Chapter of the Master Naturalists, Prairielands Groundwater Conservation District, the Tarrant Regional Water District, the Lone Star State Dulcimer Society Musicians, and Wolf Creek Farm for all that they did to make the event such a great success.
