For the medicine people in the crowd! When we moved here the land was already host to many medicinal plants like plantain, dandelion, bee balm, nettle and St. John's wort, just to name a few. I've also planted and established more cultivated varieties in the neglected corners of the more cultivated landscaping spaces around. This year I can finally see things taking hold! Pictured here is elderberry, one of two bushes I planted. There's now also lemon balm, mint, valerian, chamomile, lavender and echinacea taking hold. It's all a long game here and to see everything beginning to become part of the landscape is pretty exciting and gives me a glimpse into my/our relations with this space

Our farm is mostly for us. We put up a lot of what we grow for the nongrowing season. But! We occasionally have surplus and will be sharing that for sale in our farm tote located to the left of our farm sign.
I will post here when we stock the tote, but you'll have to check our posts because our choice to go desktop only social media has cut us off from the ability to share on our story.
Starting tomorrow (June 18) there will be scapes, eggs, apple cider vinegar (organic and made from wild apples), and farm made fire cider in the tote. First come first serve! I do however imagine we'll have scapes for awhile.

To get here Google "Kin Farm in Whitehall" and you should see our address located on Simonelli. Turn in the drive and look for the farm sign. Please reseal the tote when you have picked up your goods!

Scapes will be in the farm tote for sale in half pound bundles beginning tomorrow (Thursday June 18)! Half pound for $6 and a full pound for $10. If you'd like more, let me know and we can make a bulk deal. Google "Kin Farm in Whitehall" for directions, pull in the driveway and look for the "Kin Farm sign". The sealed tote lives just beside it.

We planted 900 garlic cloves, meaning 900 garlic bulbs and 900 garlic scapes! Scapes come from the center of the garlic plant and will eventually produce a flower. We snap them off before that point to send energy back into the bulb. This harvesting process gives us a juicy, delicious garlic preview called scapes! We like them in everything we'd use garlic in. They're easy to freeze for later or ferment on the counter top.

We feel very grateful that so many vendors from White Lake Honey Fest! are joining us again this year. Chester is one of them! We are featuring multiple vendors and artists today who will be joining us in the field August 1st, so scroll through our page to be sure not to miss anyone.
This year Chester will be bringing "a selection of handmade functional stoneware pottery in a variety of durable and attractive glazes." You'll want to plan a couple extra minutes to slowly browse his tent. So unique and inventive, you can't look too quickly or you'll miss the inspiring details.
We asked Chester how to world inspires his work and he said, "My interaction with the clay and the process of producing pottery itself, push me to explore new techniques, try new forms, and develop my skills. This circular relationship with the material feeds my interest and opens new opportunities to explore.". Say hey to Chester and take home his work soon!

Another White Lake Honey Fest! vendor share for today! Kat! Another friend returning to the field for the third year in a row with new creations.
This year Kat will be bringing dresses, tshirts, long sleeves, and kids shirts and sweatshirts! Her work is functional, vibrant and so comfy.
We asked Kat how to world inspires her work and she said, "I love how every single time I tie dye something, it turns out different than I expected. It can be a thrill and also a bummer when something turns out silly. It's always fun to do custom orders too and see the excitement when somebody else's vision comes to life!".

Our second of a handful of White Lake Honey Fest! vendors that we're sharing today is our dear friend Kim Funk!
Kim will be sharing handmade functional and sculptural ceramics. This will be her third year with us, and we can't wait to see what she brings. Her work is just brilliant!
We asked Kim how to world inspires her work and she said, "The world is endlessly inspiring me - in the people I meet, the places I move through and the moments that stay with me. Every emotion and experience finds its way into my hands and ultimately into the clay. Working with clay is more than just craft for me - it's how I make sense of things and process the world around me.". Kim's answer shows in her work and her engagement with the world around her. The first of multiple vendors coming to White Lake Honey Fest! that we'll be sharing with you today is of course our cohosts, neighbors and friends, White Lake Honey! We’ve known Steven and Meghan for a few years now. They have been a huge, irreplaceable part of building Kin Farm and were the original creatives behind Honey Fest. I asked Steven what inspired and inspires him to keep bees, and he said, “After deciding to keep bees at some point in the future, it was a serendipitous happenstance that I came across a swarm of bees when I went to purchase a neighbor's leaky stock tank. What I found most intriguing was that each type of flower produces a different tasting honey. I harvest in small batches, aiming to produce as close to a single varietal honey as possible.”. It’s true! Unlike any other honey I have tasted before, these two have so many different varieties because they are strategic about their harvesting times. These two are the honey behind honey fest and will also be bringing some of their other creations! Find them August 1st in the field.

About a month ago, I committed to moving social media off my phone. In that time, the blueberries bloomed and turned to fruit, the garden has filled up, I've realized how much harder it is to run social media from the laptop, and I've fallen behind in White Lake Honey Fest! communications. So, instead of following the advice of all social media experts, I will be posting a handful of vendor posts today, all at once! A radish harvest from the hoophouse that we pulled to make room for tomatoes! The mosquitoes are getting a little better, so the whole fam could be outside this weekend (hasn't happened in a couple weeks !!!). Balancing a baby, our garden dreams and the reality of getting work done in this chapter of our lives has proven to be a feat, but we finally feel caught up! Cruising into this week with greater confidence that we can indeed figure it out 😅
