I’m very happy to be bringing home Bona Vista Farms draft entry to Wisconsin. Yesterday when I stopped and looked at him and his sire, Swept Away, I was extremely impressed and decided he needed to come to WI.

To anyone wondering what it looks like in one of the poultry barns involved in all of this here are some pictures from when I went and got a truck full of birds today. It was one of the hardest situations I’ve had to witness and was probably even harder for me as someone who raises and has grown up around poultry so I can’t imagine what it’s like for the farmers who this ordeal is happening to. The birds still had heat and water but the only feed available is the feed put out by people trying to catch birds. Many of the birds had resorted to cannibalism to get nutrients so they could survive. The barn I went to was around 1/4 full so I’m hopeful all of the living healthy birds will be taken before they die or are euthanized because of animal welfare concerns.

It is despicable how Pure Prairie Poultry and the state of Wisconsin have failed these farmers, letting this situation get to this level. As an alumni of UWRF, it is sad that the University has decided not to do anything to help considering animal science is there largest major and they are the closest of Wisconsin’s 3 agriculture schools. It’s is also sad how underreported this has been, if it were any other livestock species it’s front page news nationwide. If 1 trillionth or less of the money being spent on political campaigns in WI was used to help this the birds could have been fed until their endpoints, avoiding this entire disaster.
