The Tool Room

The Tool Room Beautiful tools make beautiful things. Forged steel pans/tools by blacksmith Conrad Hicks. The pan that will outlive you. Kitchen, braai, camping & overlanding.

No Teflon, no coatings - natural nonstick. Cape Town, ships worldwide. Using the approach "If you use beautiful tools, you make beautiful things"
Conrad Hicks set out to bring functional art into people's homes through hand forged steel cookware. Our first made objects were tools. We developed our values around judgements of function that became our instinctive sense of beauty. Ugly forms didn't work. Driven by selective evolutionary principles, our driving force was - and still is - striving for beauty. Our generation is cut off from the tools and implements that keep us alive. The tasks we do are abstract and unfulfilling. Early tools give us a strong sense of security and understanding. There is no design - only the feeling of "this is good." Each frying pan and roasting pan is handmade and forged in Observatory, Cape Town by Conrad himself. Heat treated with beeswax to create a natural almost nonstick layer - no soap needed, no Teflon, no chemicals. All Tool Room cookware is built for fire cooking, stovetop, braai, camping, overlanding and high temperature oven roasting. Designed to distribute heat evenly for the perfect cook every time. A companion for the adventurous traveller, the serious home cook and chef. Built to last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. Ships worldwide from Cape Town, South Africa.

“A big Thank you to The Tool Room, for making our Heritage / Braai Day extra special 🔥 We bought one of your pans and were thrilled to receive a free set of tongs with it, just in time for Braai Day. What a lovely gesture.

We cooked a creamy garlic mussels right over the fire and it was excellent.

Here’s to excellent workmanship, beautifully made with great service, for an extra-special Braai Day. Higly recommend. Cheers! 🔥🇿🇦”
