Did you know that Wednesday was traditionally gehaktdag in the Netherlands?

The tradition goes back to the days before good refrigeration. Livestock was often slaughtered early in the week, and the freshly minced gehakt would be ready at the butcher on Wednesday. So… that’s what was for dinner! 😋

And what could be more Dutch than a good gehaktbal with jus, potatoes, beans and appelmoes? 🇳🇱❤️

These gehaktballen were made with Silvo Paprika kruiden — a simple classic with plenty of flavour!

The recipe says zucchini… we used eggplant 🤣 Because apparently we still can’t tell the two apart! 😂

If you grew up in the Netherlands, you probably know exactly what we mean when we say 'salmiak'… but for many people trying it for the first time, it can be quite the experience! 😂

Salmiak has a distinctive salty, slightly sharp flavour and is a much-loved flavour in Dutch and Scandinavian sweets.

These TV Pastilles are a classic example, small, dark, salty and very moreish if you are a salmiak fan! 🖤
