I recently spotted a historical photograph that Theatre North is using to promote their upcoming show, Cinq à Sept: Endling, and it sent me down a rabbit hole looking for more old photographs of the park and the gates.

That’s how I found this beautiful colour photograph through Tamar Valley Tales, and I’ve loved seeing how the view has changed over time.

I also discovered that cinq à sept is a lovely French term for those few hours after work and before heading home, literally, “five to seven”. And this September, Theatre North is hosting their own version right here in City Park.

It got me thinking… perhaps un petit verre de vin at the Wine Room before the show, or afterwards, might be the perfect way to make your own cinq à sept of it.

Even with the Children’s Fountain now relocated, I think it’s safe to say it’s still a pretty lovely outlook.

I’ve tried to credit the photographs as best I can, but if anyone knows more about them, or knows where I could find some more, I’d love to hear from you.

Lately…

A lot of travelling for trade - Melbourne, Sydney, meetings, tastings, talking wine and introducing people to Highclare.

A lot of new faces, a few familiar ones and a lot of very good conversations. Trying new to me wine.

And then…. Coming home. Back to the peace of Launceston.

Well take that.

We’re open everyday from midday for sitting in to enjoy the light and wine or to take a bottle away with you.
