When the weather gets warmer, we start craving iced beverages. 😋

Iced Matcha Lattes are one of our faves, with their delicious earthy flavour and antioxidant benefits. You don’t have to get dressed, go out, and spend a lot of money to get one. You can enjoy them in a matter of minutes while still in your jammies in the comfort of your own home with this simple recipe from Love and Lemons. 🥰

EQUIPMENT
Matcha Whisk (or frother if you don’t have one)

INGREDIENTS
1 teaspoon matcha powder (½ teaspoon for a milder latte)
¼ cup cold water
Ice
¾ cup milk of choice, such as almond or oat
Honey, maple syrup, or other sweetener of choice, optional, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl and add the water. Whisk vigorously to combine.
2. Fill a glass with ice and pour in the matcha mixture. Top with the milk, stir, and add sweetener to taste, if desired.
3. Alternatively, combine the matcha powder, water, and milk in a blender and blend until frothy. Serve over ice, adding sweetener to taste.

This recipe calls for cold water, while others call for recently boiled but not boiling water. See what works for best you!

Making your own laundry detergent/booster is incredibly easy and a great way to save money!

We recently brought in some Soda Ash, otherwise known as Washing Soda, and have had some people asking about it, so thought we’d share this super simple recipe. Everything can be found in our little store, so no need to make multiple stops, looking for that one special ingredient.👌

All you need is:
1 cup epsom salt
3 cups baking soda
3 cups washing soda
1/2 cup sea salt
40-50 drops of essential oils (optional)

Just mix all those together in your favourite container and pop 1-2 tablespoons in per load of laundry. Easy peasy. Because there is no surfactant in this recipe, it works great for those who wear their clothes gently and only need a gentle wash, or as an extra boost when added to your regular laundry soap. 💪

For those curious about the financial end of things, this 7.5 cup batch cost $10.33. That will wash to 60-120 loads, depending on how much you use... which equals only 9-18 cents per load! 🤯

We especially love that this is customizable. If you don’t like scent, skip the essential oils. Maybe you want to change up the scent of your detergent now and then. No problem! And, since all of these items are in bulk at our store, you can either cut the recipe down to make a small batch and ensure you like it before committing to a big one, or bulk it up and make a big bucket full! 😁

We’re excited to share the launch of our Community Partners Program, an initiative that allows us to support local organizations in a more meaningful and sustainable way.

This year, we’re supporting LUSH Valley Food Action Society, Cumberland Forest, and Comox Valley Food Bank .

We’re honoured to support these organizations and the important work they do. While we’re unable to accommodate additional sponsorship requests outside of this program, we’re always grateful to be part of such a generous and engaged community.

Thank you for supporting Local Refillery—and for helping us make a positive impact together. 💕

Are these not the cutest? 😍🥑

Matcha Chocolate Avo Buns:

INGREDIENTS
3/4 cup (175 ml) lukewarm unsweetened plant milk
2 1/4 tsp (7 grams) active dried yeast
1/2 cup neutral cooking oil, such as canola
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 cup  (100 grams) organic cane sugar
2 3/4 - 3 cups (400-450 gr) all purpose flour, as needed
Edible black paint, to decorate

For the matcha dough:
1 tbsp matcha + 1-1/2 tbsp milk

For the chocolate dough:
1 tsp cocoa powder + 1 tbsp milk

METHOD
Add lukewarm plant milk, yeast, oil, salt & sugar in a mixing bowl. Whisk until well mixed.

Slowly add in flour until a dough forms. Once dough has come together, use dough hook to knead the dough with stand mixed for 5-6 minutes or knead by hand on well-floured surface for 8-10 minutes, until uniform & elastic.

Remove a quarter of dough & set aside. The large piece will be your matcha dough. Flatten dough piece slightly & add the matcha & milk mixture. Knead until uniform, adding more flour as needed. Lightly spray a large bowl with oil, form the dough into a ball, & add to the bowl. Cover with clean dish towel and let rise in a warm place for 1.5-2 hours, until dough has doubled in size. The dough is done when you can push a finger into the dough and the dough does not spring back.

To make chocolate dough, flatten the dough pieces & add the cocoa powder & milk mixture. Then follow same steps as matcha dough.

When matcha dough is ready, roll it into a log & cut into 10 even pieces. Shape each piece to the shape of an avocado & make an indent where the seed will be. Place on baking tray covered with baking paper & cover with a clean dish towel.

When chocolate dough is ready, roll into small golf-balls & place in the middle of the avocado buns where the indent is.

Place buns on a baking tray covered with baking paper & cover with a clean dish towel. Let rise for 30 minutes to 1 hours, until light and puffy.

Preheat oven to 200C/400F. Bake buns for 8-14 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool completely.

Decorate buns with edible paint. Best kept in an airtight container and enjoyed within a day.

is the genius behind these adorable little creations. Check her out!
