Fun fact today, I am actually chicken of birds….kind of. No problem going in with them, collecting the eggs, feeding them etc but I do not like it when they pick at your hands, which there are a couple that seems to always do it, and flap their wings… especially the flapping of the wings. But today I was able to pick one up with no flapping of the wings. First time I have ever done that. Stroke that off my bucket list. Needed a picture for proof as I don’t think Paul or the kids would have believed me. Have a great Tuesday.

This is a friendly service announcement. We are open Wednesday to Friday 10-5, Saturday 9-5. Self serve are the items inside the red building that has the big words self serve. If needing plants on a day we are closed please message us your list and we will try and have them ready for you in the self serve building with your total. We apologize to everyone who just shows up on our closed day and expects us to stop what we are doing and help them but send them away with a friendly reminder of our open hours. Most days we have a long list of to do’s that if we helped everyone who showed up we would be so far behind in our field work. We are a two person show and we need to be closed certain days. The greenhouse is off limits. We have talked about roping it off but figure people would just go under it. We have had a big line of plants in the doorway but they just step over or move them. This afternoon we have added a ladder in-front of the door. My mistake I guess that is an invitation to use the back door to the greenhouse. Closing the doors is not an option unless we want to kill everything inside. Those doors will more than likely be open until October. So see you all out Wednesday to Friday 10-5, Saturday 9-5. 82818 Bluewater Hwy. 😁

Self serves is all set up in our new red building. Sorry I missed the first few people, didn’t think people would be out that early. Eggs, spinach, lettuce and a few fry pies are out there now along with butter tart and all our other produce and preserves. Got my next batch of lettuce planted, finished planting the squash and pumpkins. Got my new toy out to try. Was thinking some girls want diamonds and some girls want a wheel hoe. I am a wheel hoe type of girl. So nice zipping up and down the onion rows. We finished putting the last rope on our caterpillar and it will be all planted my guess is by tomorrow evening around 240 tomatoes. And we got our big irrigation going for the first time this year. We never used it last year at all. We wanted to get the pumpkins a good little start so we are going to give them a good watering in today and then we can see what is popping up nicely and if there is anything not germinating we’ll we can replant soon enough that hopefully be ready by fall. That is our Sunday morning fun. Hope you all have a great Sunday

We have had lots of inquiries about Justin's stand at the Goderich BIA farmers Market. If not sure who Justin is and which stand, it is the ever so popular produce stand with the red benches. The young polite lad who has been going for I think ten years now. He will be back starting June 28th, it will be his first Saturday he is able to get off from work. If we get the warm weather before hand and peas and strawberries are ready in abundance before then we will be there before then. So before June 28th come on out to Ruetz Country Market and load up on fresh produce, baking, meats, preserves, plants, and so much more. If not realizing the connection before hand we are ma and pa of the "young polite lad"' We love hearing many time how people describe him that way. We are open Wednesday's to Friday 10-5 Saturdays 9-5. 82818 Bluewater Hwy, 5 minutes north of Goderich on Hwy 21.

It’s Friday and again we are loaded to the gils. So much good baking is in today. We actually took extra in as one person had an order mixed up so we said sure let’s see what we can do. So help us help them. Lots of Apple fritters, breads, pies and squares from Bartliffs of Clinton. We also have a couple cherry fritters and a honey glazed donut pack if wanting something different. Just a few apple cider donuts left. Tarts, muffins, fry pies, scones, carrot cake, Spanish bar cake ( only two left). Gluten free muffins and a couple gluten free brownies. One pack of bagels left already. Lots of asparagus, rhubarb, lettuce and more in produce. And needed to share the awesome decor items which came in yesterday afternoon. See you all out 10-5 today. 9-5 Saturday. 82818 Bluewater highway.

Two posts in one day? Must be new product that came in. 😁 Thursday is a delivery day and back in is chocolate and white milk in those good old glass bottles from Mistyglynn. This time we also got yogurt in glass bottles see if anyone is after that. Don’t forget we do have a bit of goat milk and kefir. For those that make their own pizza we now have Metzgers pepperoni slices in to go along with Grassroots pizza dough and Backwoods pizza sauce. I will be honest, for all the canning we do, we love Backwoods pizza sauce and use it every time we make our own pizza. So that’s it for today come on down would love to see you.

Okay who is planting their tomatoes this week? One conversation we have every year that many people do not know is you should plant your tomatoes deep. Planting tomatoes deep is a proven method to build a massive, robust root system. Because tomato stems possess tiny hairs that sprout roots when buried, you should plant your tomatoes deeply, burying up to 2/3 rd of the main stem, or lay them horizontally in a shallow trench if the stem is very long or leggy. Planting tomatoes deeply allows the buried portion of the stem to convert those tiny fuzzy hairs into strong, nutrient-absorbing roots. This results in a drought-tolerant plant with a sturdy foundation. Aim for about a 6- to 8-inch depth or simply plant the stem horizontally to keep the new root zone in the warm, upper layers of the soil. So if you did not know before, now you do.
