The Back 40 The Back 40 is a family farm in Hanmer ON. We raises free range poultry. Our chickens and turkeys are raised free range, without growth hormones or medications.

We sell fresh farm eggs, whole chicken and turkeys. The Back 40 has a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere nestled on over 100 acres of unspoiled land with several private trails. We are a family run farm that takes great pride in providing quality personalized care to all the animals here. Our laying hens are free range by day, and safe in their coop at night. They have clean coop and many nesting box

es. They are fed all hormone and antibiotic free foods. They provide us with large to extra large brown eggs daily. We also raise broiler chicken and turkey. They are also naturally raised, free range, on a antibiotic and hormone free diet. All of our poultry is professionally processed and government inspected. For the horses, we have free choice quality hay, water and minerals at all times. we have a 4 stall barn with tacking area. At the Back 40 we like to keeping herd size small. Our main paddock has a wind/rain shelter and we have 2 additional paddocks perfect for slowly introducing new comers, light grazing and play. We have an outdoor riding arena equipped with a couple jumps and other props for working your horses.

I got a call last night from a local poultry grower asking how I raise my chickens. She said they are beautiful birds and she to would like to raise hers to be so nice.

This made me so proud of what I do and warms my heart to know that all our hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.

It’s not the first time we get told “nice birds”. The inspector, processing facility, new and returning customers tell us how good the chicken was, etc.

We’ve been raising meat birds 11 years, and every year there are challenges but we work through them with care and consideration for the food we eat.

Here at the Back 40 we treat our livestock with kindness, and do our best to keep them comfortable and content by providing them with plenty of clean indoor and outdoor space, sunshine and grass, good food, and clean water.

I am happy to share what I do and wish all farmers happiness and success in what they do!
